Subject: Home brew intake question. IP: Logged
Message: I have been looking for a cold air intake for my 1990 V6 dakota. Have had no luck. So I thought maybe a K&N cold air kit for the 92+ would work. Any comments are appreciated.
Aboutht e home brew system. I thought about getting some 3in dia PVC pipe. putting an elbow in the middle of it. And painting it with heat resistant paint. My question is about hooking it to the stock air box. Could I buy a simple rubber fitting and attach the PVC to the r. fitting and to the airbox? Of course take out the stock filter. Would this allow my enginge to get the cooler air from the front of the engine comp. and run it throught the TBI? Any help is good. Thanks for your time.

Message: some of the guys on here tried that already and guess what? when it got real hot out last summer the under hood temps got up to around 115 or so and then pvc melted all over their exhaust manifolds. I guess some of them had quit a mess. You might want to try heater duct or solid, not flexable drier exhaust duct. I did on mine and it works good and it don't melt either.

Message: Billy bob, you have hit the nail on the head man. I never thought about solid heater duct. Thats a good idea. But one question, how did you mount your Cone filter on the end and get it to stay where you wanted it? Thats the only question I can think of that would possibly cause a problem. Thanks for the advice though. Will look into that this weekend. Very very good Idea. Nobel Prize here guys!
