Subject: A Real TB Question IP: Logged
Message: Ok, I'm thinking of getting the 48mm F&B TB. The real question I have is what does this do to my "everyday" bottom end? I'm talking PART THROTTLE, 1800-2800 rpm's. It's obvious at WOT the motor will make more power, but I'm not always to the floor board! So in everyday, around town driving, will I lose any bottom end which will force me into the throttle more to get to the sweetspot of the rpm's? Because if thats the case, I can just pin it now and get those results for free. Any and all real(honest) answers will be a great help.
Thank's
Darryl

Message: It will be much more responsive and fun to drive from 1500 rpm on up. I don't have any dyno charts, just a seat-of-the-pants power impression and thats positive.
I don't know what other mods you have, the result will depend on what you will do to the intake and exhaust in addition to installing the TB. I felt that the TB works best together with a cold air intake, headers and a performance exhaust...

Message: Your decision should depend on what you use your truck for. If it's just your daily driver, you may want to consider Dan Arcand's 46mm TB (The Fastman). I believe it has a torque curve more for street. If you plan on doing any internal mods or forced induction, then a 48-50mm bore is what you need. I believe Bruce (F&B) has a 30 day trial w/ his TB's. If you don't like it, you can return it. Maybe Dan can let you test out one of his too! I hear he is a great guy.
You may want to look into a set of 4.10 gears for your V6 auto. Best bang for the buck for low end grunt.
P.S. I have the F&B 48mm TB and I agree with Eric, it's very snappy!

Message: Thanks guy's for the great responses, my truck is my daily driver but like everyone I love to mash it with the best of them! My existing mods are, airaid intake with S&B powerstack filter, flap removed from the gill area, gibson single swept cat-back, jet stage 2, royal purple everywhere, bosch platinum +4,plus alot more(very cool if I do say so myself). My 2 future mod's are the TB and gears in that order, but as for the gears, I live in So Cal and drive 100miles a day at 70mph minimum! So the extra rpm's and the $'s for even more 91 octane is of major concern. Any and all reply's are needed for TB and gears.
Thank's Much,
Darryl

Message: I agree that if you go to big, it will kill some of the very low end off the line. I installed a stock v8 one on mine, as off the true line, I didn't notice anything, but it deffenatly lowered my sweet spot, and holds it longer.
The best low end off the line I did was the crank pully.
