Message: Hey, what's up everybody!? I just have a few questions mainly about exhaust. I just recently purchased my 2001 Dakota and plan on modding it next spring. One of first mods is going to be either a cat-back exhaust. One of my questions is, has anybody installed the Mopar Perf. Exhaust on their 3.9? How was the sound? Lastly, I am looking into perhaps a cold-air intake as well as Headers for the truck. I am currently looking at the Nickle plated JBA's. They look sweet. My last question is, how well does the 3.9 respond to the headers? Thanks in advance.

Message: Not sure on the Mopar Performance. Must not be very good since I know of no one who runs it. I put a Flowmaster 3 chamber in mine and it sounds sweet. The headers won't make a difference unless you have a bigger intake. The stock manifolds flow well, but with a cold air intake and a bigger throttle body on first, you will notice an increase.

Message: Thanks for the info, cbsdakota! Just have one question, though...What series Flowmaster are you running (40, 50)? I was tempted with having one hooked up to my truck, but would really rather have a cat back that I could put on myself. Hmmm, maybe I'll just go with the Flowmaster though. You can't beat their sound :)

Message: The FLowmaster 50 series sounds sweet. The 2.5" single in/out offset on both sides (Summit part # FLO-942553) fits in the stock pipe. It's $89 and any reputable muffler shop should install it for $10 or $20, especially if you order it through them. When I had put on, they pulled out the stock muffler that is clamped in. Then they tacked it to the forward pipe and had to pull the rear pipe back (it pivots on the exhaust hangers) about 1". It looks no different. If you measured the clearance between where the pipe exits the truck and the body, there is maybe a 1" difference there due to the way the exhaust shifted. But still plenty of clearance, and if you wanted to could add a nice polished tip.
