Subject: Starts...then shuts off IP: Logged
Message: Whenever it is cold outside, my truck will start and I hear a whole lot of clanking and stuff from the engine. The whole truck shakes and I usually shut it off quickly since it sounds terrible.
Other days it will start and rev up to 2000 RPM, then slowly idle back down and shut off.
Any ideas?

Message: Hi, My truck did the same recently. I thought it might be the fuel filter but there is no fuel filter on my truck. Went to the dealer and they told me to clean the throttle body real good. it took two cans of injector cleaner but that did the trick. it now idles like it should. I am not totaly sure about your truck but It might be worth a try. it would be better to remove the throttle body and clean it. my truck is a 2000 quad cab v-6.

Message: my understanding is that the fuel filter is in the gas tank on the primary pick up side of the pump,

Message: Your correct, Chris. The in-tank pump assembly has a 40 micron sock filter that a little carb spray and air hose BJ work quite nicely on. Beats the heck outta buying a new one anyway

Message: I just replaced the throttle body a few months ago. I cleaned it real good.
I changed the fuel filter about a year ago. It was on the driver side framerail.

Message: No more "easy to replace" frame rail filters for the magnums. The fuel system engineers are getting a good laugh at our exspence.

Message: i agree its a pain ,but ive looked it over and it appears to be easier to get a box of beer and a few buddies and lift the box of than it is to drop the tank
but putting it on the primary side of the pump serves better purpose than putting it on the fram rail ,not letting dirt into the pump in the first place well automaticlly lenghten the life of any pump fuel, hydrualic or other wise
