Subject: rattling under cab IP: Logged
Message: Ive got a 00 3.9 with only 22k miles on her. theres a rattling underneath somewhere and it sounds like pebbles in the cat...could my cat of already gone out? any other suggestions?

Message: dude, it could just be a heat shield for the exhaust is coming lose you might just want to try and see if you can find it and re-tighten it.-thats the easiest and cheapest way to do it. lemme know. take er easy

Message: That would work too, theres lots of underbody things that can rattle over time, like mufflers, cats, heat shields, etc. Like 87dakman mentioned about cheap, always go from easiest/cheapest to hradest/expensive, thats the best prob solving method when you rnot sure whats wrong.

Message: I have a 99 3.9 I just had the cat replaced for the same thing. They have to replace any bad cats for free for 8 yrs or 80k it's a EPA regulation. I hear these cats are only good for 20 - 30k anyway.

Message: i ve never had to replace a converter on any of my dak's. they dont idle , and when on the highway they cruise about 120kph on average. i also use a little bit of alchol in the gas as well as the petro-canada gas with the winter stuff in it . i have always noticed how much water the little 3.9 can produce if they sit and idle ,so they dont
