Subject: Which Optima battery ?
IP: Logged

Message:
I am trying to decide whether to purchase a Red Top Optima Battery @ 750 CCA or Yellow Top Optima battery @ 650 CCA. Would the Deep cycle be better versus the starting? I don't have any accessories other than a Sony radio. If I go with a Yellow top would 650 CCA be sufficient? Thanks in advance.

It would be sufficient, but If there are often mornings that are really freezing cold, the more cca's the better...

Now that i think of it, when i bought my truck it had a boat battery in it, and even that could (hardly) turn it over in mid-october temps. 40's - 30's.

Kracker,

Was that the Blue Top Optima? What is the difference with the boat (blue) battery and regular (red or yellow) battery? I am in the NJ and there are some cold days. Thanks.

No, the boat battery wasnt an optima, It was some cheap brand, anyway, Boat batteries lack CCA's (Cold Cranking Amps). If it was often very, very cold outside, I would get the 750CCA Battery, Of course, a 650CCA Would do the job just about as good, you wouldn't notice that much of a difference in starting. The main difference between the two is their length of warranty, right? If thats the case, It's really just up to you whether you want 750 CCA or 650, but don't buy the marine battery.
