I dont know hats wrong with your trucks but i had a 95 ford taurus 3.0L and i maxed it out at 85 and it was still going faster.So you have to think about it if your dakota wont go faster than a taurus you have a big problem.

My 99' Dodge Dakota Sport passed 2 18 wheelers in passing gear redlining close to 5600 and tach only going to 6000 RPM! I have to watch my RPM's or I'll end up blowing my baby up or damage it! 95 MPH in passing gear, let off and got doin' so close to 120 but the darn thing cut out! (116 or 117 MPH I think)

It must be your comptuer chip or something. The only reason it can't get any higher is cause its being regulated.

I have the 3.9 auto w/4.10. I hits over drive and keeps on going. My uncle has a 01 lightning I was next to not behind to 135. Turn the key to start. :)

I had my 94 out today and she was doin 95 no problem with room left. I dont have anything over the bed except 4 big tires laying back there the tail gate was up and I was in O/D. you need to get that baby fixed. Something to think about it, it may be somethin with your TPS

what is TPS? Dealer says its running fine! How am i gonna tell them that i can't get it over 90? They'll say your not supposed to go that fast anyways.

And how do I get the computer flashed? What do I tell the people that do it? Also, AHow much does it cost?

Hi...
I just wanted to say that you are crazy people! Driving so fast with a car that can't take the curves at all! I think you fool americans haven't ever driven a car that handles great even at top speed. I have driven Dodge Dakota 3.9 with automatic transmission, and it was a nightmare to drive at speeds over 50 mph. Why? Because the car couldn't go straight at all and was trying to flip over on every curve! Well... maybe not, but I mean, that Germans make a lot better behaving cars, just try a Bimmer for example. From my point of view (I live in Europe and I drive a German car with quite stiff suspension as standard), the steering is very insensible, it should give some response to the driver what is really happening, but it doesn't! Why? Because it has to be so light for the average american driver. You could make the steering go stiffer when the speed gets up, but no. It is good only in the parking lot. There's a huge cultural gap between european and american cars, you want soft seats, we want seats good also for long journeys. Too soft seats are bad, if you have to drive from coast to coast... European cars are for drivers who are not so lazy, and like to get a "feel" of the road, not uncomfortable, but at least some kind of clue what's going to happen next...

I have a 3.9 '92 auto V6 130,000+ miles. I have K&N intake and Magnaflow exhaust. When i got the truck about 3 years ago (at the time Glaspacks) I was able to get it up about 100 but it seemed like from 90-100 took forever! Now ive had a lot of trouble and taken it to a screwy mechanic i can get it to about 90 then she decides not to go any faster. Im not technically educated in the least bit but if you have any suggestions and you could put them in "Cliff notes" or Dakotas for morons then please by all means send what you got.
another question... Since shes am getting up there in mileage and is already 11 years old how much damage would the truck recieve from the addition of a supercharger? Id rather not add something that could end up blowing off the backend of the truck.

I have a 97 3.9 5speed. It takes no effort for that thing to get up to 100mph, but from then on it takes a little bit for it to get to 115. as for as the handling goes, I think that it handles great for a truck that is full blown stock. I love my dodge so much that I would not take anything but a dodge for now on.
P.S. It sounds like to me no name doesn't know how to drive.

It was nice to see that you are AWAKE, my little message got attention! I think you didn't notice the smiley, 'cause it was just meant to be a little joke... I like american cars, but I am right when I say there is a huge difference in the way european and american cars handle. And european cars (german) are a lot better when you have to drive fast... american cars are good for cruising in the town. In general. I know it. Of course, there is exceptions. Take in notice, that in Germany, they can drive as fast as they want on their "autobahns", and they have to make cars good for high speeds.
I wish you all have a nice life with your cars...

I just had mine up to 120 and she was still pulling strong just nearing redline and I didn't want to blow by anyone out on the Interstate at that speed so I slowed down 92 V-6 5-Speed the Rev Limiter with the MP SBEC computer is 5800

97 3.9 auto ccs would do about 115-117 stock. Then that "limiter" kicked in. It took it a while to get up to it though.
Have mods done now, run it around 90-95 all the time at about half peddle. I need to get a damn chip or something to get rid of that limiter so I can find out what it will do.

I have had my truck going 131 mph and it scared the sh!t out of me. My truck was fine but the damn "s" rated tires didnt like it too much. That was naturally aspirated and since the turbo i havent gone over 100 because of the tires.
With more fuel and "z" rated tires I imagine that i could easily do 140+ (with a bed cover).

Ok, I was running with my boy and he has a VW GTi with a bunch of mods and he was impressed with how well my '97 Club Cab could hang with his car in the turns and on the highway... I think this is a great truck for the road and I have issues driving fast and taking sharp turns over 50mph...
You must be confused with MPH and KPH... hehehe

HI, I have a 98 3.9L 4x4 I have no problems with getting it to go fast, believe me I have 2 tickets to prove that.But my question is what type of headers should i get,and exhaust I know a guy who will give me a 3" flowmaster cat-back system for $326 installed is that a good deal? Also is it a good deal for $500 for a 3 inch body lift. please help lol

I just bought a 2002 Dakota SXT 4x4 CC in August 2002. I drive back and forth on a highway every day to work...I've had the truck to the 120mph mark. It seems to go fine all the way to 100. Then it takes a while to get it up to 120. I am sure this is due to the limiters...this truck is completely stock at this point.
Mods I am currently working on...
Dual exhaust (Flowmaster or Bullet)
Turbo City Dual Air intake
AAR hood
Jet Performance Chip
I'd be interested in hearing any pros/cons with my planned mods. The AAR hood is already on the way though.
