Message: The 3.9/5.2/5.9 all have the same bell housing, so if you have one of those motors then yes. I'm not sure about the 4cyl's. Also check the balancing, 318's are internally balanced.

Message: dak diddy, I'm not trying to be a smart ass, but if you have 6 grand to spend, have you thought about maybe just selling your 92 and buying a newer dak with a 318? I live in FL and there are tons of 2wd 318's easily in your price range. Check autotrader.com, might be less of a headache. But then again, you might love your 92 and just want a newer motor....

| 3.9 to 5.9 flywheel? IP: Logged
Message: i have a 1990 dodge 3.9 v6 4spd 4x4 with 4.10 gears. i have a 360 that has been balanced blueprinted, and ready for standard, except for flywheel. i was wondering if a flywheel from the 3.9 will bolt up, i realize if it will that i will have to have it balanced. so the question is, will a 3.9 v6 flywheel bolt up to a 5.9 360. please email me soon, because this motor swap will be in affect within the next few days.

Message: I'm not 100% but my best guess would be yes - it should bolt up. intensedak39 is correct - but you better be sure it's balanced and be sure the flywheel is neutral balance. I think most 360's rely on some kind of external balance from the flywheel/touque converter and harmonic balancer (someone correct me if I'm wrong here) - unless it's been custom internally balanced like mine. The best thing would be to have the machine shop balance the crank with the flywheel and harmonic balancer bolted to it - but if your motor is already completely balanced and the flywheel is neutral (which I think it is) then it should be fine.
Let us know - Good Luck!

Message: i'm not sure about motors that old, but if it uses a crank position sensor, then you'll need a 318 flywheel.. if it doesnt use a CPS, then i believe you can get away with the V6 flywheel.. just if they use the same clutch.

I've never had a cop poke his nose under the hood of my truck when in an accident. As far as insurance, screw getting all your money back. You take the risk and investment when build or swap anything on a truck. Insurance is just to get some cash for your wrench. If it isn't bad damage, get some balls and pay it yourself. Just where did your manhood go that you ought be a boyscout and report everything? The original poster ain't building a damn trailer queen!

Message: I have upgrade my 91 Dakota 2 wheel drive v6 3.9 to a 97 318. I machined an old carb intake to horizontal flats so I could bolt onto the magnum heads, used v6 water pump its shorter custom made a spacer and used a ford 351 m fan reworked the shroud its a bit close but has never hit anything I took the top of the 318 pan and welded the bottom of the v6 pan on to it changed the computer and changed the sensor ends on the wire harness to fit the v8 throttle body sensors

Message: oops used the v6 sump and had to add some wire to hook up the throttle body temp sensor(a bit tricky reading diagrams) I cut my existing Y pipe and using sleeves rewelded it to fit magnum v8 manifolds, I believe everything else was simply swapped from my v6 except the distributer I picked up 1 from the wrecker
