Subject: 3.9 rod question
IP: Logged

Message:
Im doing a rebulid to my 98 3.9, doesnt need it but im getting ready to install a large shot of nitrous (150). Im having trouble finding rods for it though. I know the 318 rods will work but i've heard that the crank has to be ground due to wider rod journals. If anyone can help me out on this I would be greatly appreciative.

thanks

haha! im dealing with this same issue, supposedly there is something called a chamfer that need to be ground out. but any machine shop should be able to handle it.

so you gonna go with H beams? or I?

The stock rods are actually allready forged, you can really just have them shot peened and be done with it. I did not realize there was a difference in the rods back when I built my 3.9. A machine shop can easily enlarge the useable face on the rod journals so that the 318 rods will work.

im going with H-beam, probably could use I beam but from what i have heard the H-beams hold there integrity better with large amounts of nitrous.
