Subject: V6 Valve Covers IP: Logged
Message: Hey, just thought I would pass along some info-- I've been getting requests from people for V6 valve covers-- billet covers will be later on this year from F&B (it's in the works).
Another issue-- with Crower rockers, people need to knock out the baffles to clear the locknut/on the stud. I started getting in new valve covers from mopar, and I am now having the centers drilled to clear the rockers-- what a concept! In the process, I have hooked up with a powdercoating company, and can now offer powdercoated valve covers, predrilled for the crowers (or any other brand) rockers... Or if you just want some cool colored valve covers. Initial estimates look at $75 to coat a set of covers + exchange... There's a multitude of available colors (black, white, red, yellow, silver, etc. etc.) These guys coat OEM stuff for Honda motorcycles, nerf bars for ATVs, inner fenders for off road trucks, intakes for Ford racing...etc They are local to me, so getting these done is a no brainer.
Anyway, just thought I would pass along the info--
I'm thinking of having my RT rims blasted and coated by these guys soon too.

Message: I believe the target price is around $200.00-- hopefully lower-- in the $150.00 price range. Not exactly cheap, but the overall design and functionality will be top notch. Easy access to adjust your rockers, etc... Plus won't have the leakage problem the mopar cast covers have... Again, this is at least the target. The initial idea was for the 5.2/5.9 motors, but figured, once that's done-- the 3.9L should be fairly easy to accomodate.
News at a 11.. hehe

Message: Well, I am doing the first set (prepped for Crower) tomorrow, the possibly powdercoating them red-- and off to EUROPE they go.
I can do brand new covers, powder coated for $150.00 no exchange, or $75.00 + your old covers. I'm trying to get the price of the powder coating down, but until I get some volume, that's the best I can do. The company that does it is one of the best in my area, and I checked a few other companies-- I could save maybe $10.00, but the shop looks like a guys backyard shed and with 1 oven and a 2 guys spraying outside. LOL. I wasn't impressed.
If people want to go with completely new covers-- then I'll get those in.
If you are doing a engine rebuild or something, man, send me your brackets and such-- non-prep stuff is a lot cheaper to do, and if the same color as the covers-- might only run $10-15 for addition bracket (if that). I am going to redo my AC compressor bracket on the next go around. I painted it, and the paint comes off... powder coating won't.

Message: Sam
I see you drilled holes in the baffels to clear the roller rockers. Isnt this somewhat counter productive? The reason the baffels are not removed is do to the pcv valve sucking oil into the intake manifold. I know with just the holes there it still provides better protection than no baffels at all, but I beleive simply compressing the baffels a bit for clearance is a better idea. I have a set of powdercoated valve covers that I no longer use because I had removed the stock baffels and installed moroso baffels. With these they still sucked too much oil. i went back to a stock pair where I simply knocked in the baffels a bit and have had no problems

Message: I thought everybody removed the pvc from the intake and ran a hose straight to the ground. Those vapors ain't doing you any good in the combustion chamber.

Message: Going to try these out and see how it goes-- the only thing sticking through the baffle is the rocker nut and sure-lock. No oil is coming through that-- the ends of the rocker are still covered with the stock baffle, at the correct height. This should work fine. I'll report back once I get them to my customer and see the results.

Message: Sam, what size hole are you talking about? If you're talking about just big enough to clear the Surelock, alignment will have to be pretty critical, right?

| RE: V6 Valve Covers IP: Logged
Message: The holes are an oval, and difficult to cut to say the least... Even on a vertical mil, as the material wants to dance around a bit, and the baffles are flimsy. Size wise, there's enough room for the nuts to fit through, and not more than 1/4" gap on the sides-- so yes, alignment is 'pretty' critical. I test fit this to a set of 5.2L heads (and appears to be fine).
