Message: I would reccomend one of these to ANYONE who is doing there own work without a lot of experience. These books describe everything you could need for just about any job you could do, and there definently worth the $15 or so that you pay... Anyways, if your a little inexperienced, these are the books for you.

Message: I prefer the Chiltons. They have HP and Tq ratings. Plus the tune up, capities are all in one location, the front of the book.

Message: I have Hanyes and Chilton manuals for a variety of vehicles, A.C. repair, small engine repair, etc. and I am of the opinon that the Haynes is a little more in lay-mens terms......which I still struggled with do to the fact that I'm an all American, corn fed, bonified idiot from way back......not to mentoin that I was educated locally. Did I mention that I come from a long family line of genuine knuckle heads?

Message: let me give you a brief history according to me.
Chilton came first - little book, more fluff than real info. but better than nothing, so I bought it.
Haynes comes along out of britain, big book. They take a car apart and photographs a lot. Has some short cuts and gets into the mechanicals. I buy only Haynes.
Chilton goes down the tube. Then figures if you can't beat them, imitiate them. So the chilton books got like the haynes books.
Now they are pretty much the same.

Message: I have a Haynes for every vehicle I ever have. I like to do pretty much all the work I can to my cars. I try not to depend on them. I started out with very little knowledge and the Haynes has helped me learn. But recently I used one to change the starter on my 92 and it turns out I had no problem doing it all by myself, but if I had used the Haynes I would have taken apart the steering shaft. My advice is to use the manuel as a supplement to your common sense and mechanical abilities. I like us, but mechanics starve because of us. I know some who pay 100-150 for a good brake job, costs us about 25 and a six pack. Gotta love it.
