We computed it on the original Stroker post a while back.

Message: Just out of curiosity (cause I don't konw these things), if you stroke an engine will it use more or less gas??? Part of me thinks it will but part of me thinks it may not because its producing more power, thus requiring less effort to do the same amount work as a smaller engine. Also, by stroking it would it run at a lower RPM. Exuse my igorance on the subject, but I'm new to "real" perfromance modifacations and gotta start to learn somehow :)

Message: Fuel economy has nothing to do with how much horsepower your engine can produce. What matters is how efficient your engine is on fuel (specific fuel consumption) and how much horsepower you usually use. If you're romping on it a lot, then you're gonna get worse, because you'll be using more horsepower. Assuming you don't change your driving style, and the stroker kit doesn't hurt your cruising efficiency, then it shouldn't change.
That's why V6's and V8 generally have about the same economy--the trucks are the same, so you're using the same amt. of horsepower as an 8.

Message: Here's a thought, would it still be advantagous to supercharge and hook up some juice to a stroked engine. I'm pretty sure if you have the piston's made for your application, it shouldn't hurt the engine with moderate used of the juice. Or would the forced induction, and juice be too much for the block when it is stroked? Inquiring minds want to know.

Message: Yes, you can supercharge a stroked engine. As for it being advantagous? Yes, I would have to think so as well :) Technically stroked engines have near the same compression ratio of a stock engine! Shorter rods, bigger crank.
I don't know about the stroked, supercharged engine with nitrous though... probally be ok. People are running blowers on non-stroked V6s with Nitrous, aren't they? Might be a bit overkill though.

Message: If you're gonna juice the motor make sure they put in good quality internals... Pistons, rings, con rods, crank etc.... will already be under more stress with forced induction, add a 100 shot of nitrous and it will seriously put stress on the internals. Don't forget about the exhaust manifolds, either... too much pressure and you can toast 'em.

Message: So there selling a custom crank for $3200 !!! To top it off they only have to do 6 cylinders worth of work, not 8 and Ive seen custom cranks for 8's half as much.
The pistons are available from many vendors as they are the same as stroker pistons for a 318.
Sounds a bit pricy to me.

Message: I've been looking around to see if someone can do a custom one for me that isn't to pricey. I'm tryig to find a kit or someone that can do one at a resonable price so that down the road when i have to re-build my engine i can put the stroker kit in it. I know i should just get an 8 but then i'd have to get a new tranny (i've been told the AX-15 Tranny will not bolt up to the V8. Plus i fugrue a stroker 6 should kick butt, IMO.

Actually, it depends on what the AX15 came off of...the 4-bangers are AMC engines and have a different pattern...the bell housing is the key...

Message: Tom Slick -- Thanks for the info, I've been going back and forth with what i want to do. Either find a shop that can do a custom V6 stroker kit because i am guessing that i can find someone to do it cheaper then the over 3000 that strokerkits.com wants or i can find a 5.2 cheap some where and go from there. I don't know if you remember me but i'm the guy that has the purple dakota with the silver flames that i took over to the shop to have a timing chain, water pump changed around 4-5 months ago. I've already installed the hotckis lowering kit and added my R/T wheels on it. I'm going to post some pictures of it this weekend. Thanks for the info.

Message: Tom -- quick question for you about a super charger kit for my dakota. Currently 3.9L with cold air intake, 3 inch high flow cat with 3 inch cat back exhaust, Jet stage 2 module and just recently V8 throttle body and electric fan. I am looking at buying a super charger for it because i figure i can always use it even if i change to an 8. Even with 123,000 miles on itg the compression on each cylinder is great. Finally the question, do you know what type of power increase i could expect from it? Is 50 horses and 50 ft/lb of torque (some where around there would be nice) to much to expect from it?

Message: Yeah I have a 99 Dakota, I had a double roller installed with the tensioner. They installed the mopar performance double roller and mopar tensioner. When they installed it I felt that it ran better, had a better throttle response in a sense that it didn't feel as sluggish any more (maybe it was just in my head). They also replaced the water pump when they replaced the chain since the pump has to be removed. I had speed tweaks do it for me. I was very happy with the work done on my truck.

I strongly recommend the tensioner(it's standard on the 3.9L's), even with a double roller timing chain...
btw, I've got the tensioner on my double roller timing chain on my 5.2L...
