Subject: 3 chamber flowmaster IP: Logged
Message: I'm looking at getting a performance type muffler. Flowmaster recommends a part#52557 SUV/Truck muffler for my Dakota. It is 23 inches long and should be a direct replacement which is what I'm looking for. My question is though is a 3 chambeed muffler going to be realy quiet? I think the 40 series is 1 chamber. It says it gives better flow but is quieter, I just wonder how much. Does anyone have one of these or have knowledge of chambers. Thanks

Message: 30 series = 1 chamber, loudest
40 series = 2 chamber
50 series = 3 chamber
60 series = 4 chamber, quieter and the list goes on. www.flowmastermuffler.com will explain all, If you want to go by the sound that the site has for the applications, well they are not always right.

Message: I've had both the 50 series three chamber delta flow and 70 series big block on my '02 Quad. I found the 50 series delta flow to be loud with an annoying resonance in the cab at certain revs. The 70 series is almost as quiet as stock inside with a muted rumble outide. It also gave a nice performance boost.

Message: Thanks for the tip on that 70 series muffler. It fit what I needed in a replacement performance muffler to a T! I appreciate it. I'll get it by Friday from summit racing and put it on Saturday. I talked to the guy at flowmaster and he said that this muffler would be quieter then the 50 which is what I wanted, better flow with not a lot of noise. Though they both are 3 chamber mufflers. It's actually the same as the 50 dimension wise just 5 inches longer. Yee Haw Thank to all that helped
