Message: Ok
Help me out here. My step-brother has a
4 banger 98 stepside ford ranger. And I
have a 98 Dodge Dakota v6.
For a long time now my truck has seemed
to be the better looking higher sitting
more beefy look to it compaired to his.
My Dak would make his look like crap.
But! He just got 31X10.5X15 and now
his truck sits hire and looks beefy.
I curently have p255/65/16 on my truck.
Which is the equivilant to a 30/9.5/16
What should i do? I heard you can give your
truck a cheap 2" body lift with hockey pucks.
(redneck injunuity) But Who knows.
Should i even bother? My engine is still way faster and better and will for sure last longer then his now.
Any Cheap height suggestions?

Message: Leave it the way it is unless you're going to put a suspension lift on it. Our trucks sit low for a reason. They have the number one (of all trucks and SUV's) rating on rollovers. Plus, the way they sit makes them look even more pissed off. Nothing beats the Dakota's wide, low (yet beefy), off-road-looking stance...Nothing. Tell him to take that one to the bank.
Honestly dude, I've noticed this, whatever you have, there will be something about something else you like better. If you raise yours up higher than his, tomorrow you'll see one not raised and you'll be like man, I bet that handles better than mine, I miss that. Just be happy with what you got and just know that you have the MOST of what you like with what you've got.

Message: Well for what it's worth, my Dad has a Ford Ranger and he's not one to say good things about something just to be nice. He took my Dakota for a test drive and had nothing BUT good things to day and even made a couple comments about the engine having more grunt than his Ranger and that the truck overall felt more solid than his did. I don't think you can get a better endorsement than that (trust me ;-).
IMHO, just enjoy what you have.

Message: Highest rollover rate...where did you get this info???
I not trying to tell you are wrong but I am pretty sure I saw the exact opposite...
If you can show me the info it would be much appreciated. Not like mine is going to rollover since it is lower than stock..hehe

Message: Hey I had a Ranger, now I got my Dakota! That pretty much sums it up. I dont care what you do to a Ranger, you'll never beat a Dakota! It rides better, handles better on & off road, tows better, feels more solid, and looks WAY better! I'm not doggin on people with Rangers, they're good trucks, but good doesn't compare to Dakota which is the best truck of them ALL. My little input : )

Message: Hey, pick on something your own size!
With my old '94 Ranger I used to hit those bumpy and curvy offramps and say to myself "It'll stay upright, it'll stay upright!" It always did, but things sure got iffy sometimes. Also the only thing I ever drove that actually fishtailed in third of five gears with a 95 horse 4-banger powering them at 45mph onto the freakin' highway in the rain - the pucker factor was so great with semi's bearing down on me that my butt cheeks nearly reached through the seat and floor to grap the road and steer it out of the way!
My Dakota is better in every way but mileage and reliability. Who needs THAT crap anyway? :-)
Nonetheless, it sure did take that big Jaguar at 50 miles per hour darn well. May it rest in peace. Tour of duty under Zaurusman served with honors; hope it's enjoying truck heaven with the brand new tires it went there wearing... Grrr..!

Message: I once test drove a 99 ranger, cause i was fed up with my un-reliable 99 dakota 3.9, and the ranger was quite the dog. To my suprise, the 4.0 liter was way slower than my dakota. Anyways, i'm still stuck with my dakota, which is getting a tranny overhaul as we speak( 1000 dollars, 40,000 miles!!), but from what i've read and heard, the rangers are way more reliable. Now if dodge could only comprehend "quality control",dakotas would be unbeatable.....When i get rid of this truck, which will probbably happen when it gets junked in another 20,000 miles, Dodge will be losing my business forever. I don't know how they stay in business with the junk they churn out. I guess its flashy looks and garbage quality.....

Message: You know, I dont know how you guys are driving your dakotas, but mine's doing just fine. Havent had any major problems with it and I think it's more reliable than my old 89 ranger which blew up on the side of the road for no particular reason.

Message: I finger luck o' the draw, Bryan. My father's '92 had a couple problems but nothing like mine and now has over 97K miles on the ticker. My friend's '98 V6 had fewer problems at least. Drove the Ranger harder and had zero problems ever.
I think the assembly line workers must benefit from a once-daily drinking binge and some of our trucks happened to be on their way down the conveyor during just such a party. They coulda stuffed a bottle in the glovebox...

Message: Hi all, Im new here and glad I found this site. Been reading many of the messages on the boards, including the "MY DAKOTA IS A LEMON" article. That was disturbing. Anyways, I have a 96 reg cab V6 5-speed. Bought it new at the end of the model year and havent had 1 complaint about my Dakota. Its never left me stranded and even took me a few places I was convinced a 2WD would get stuck, and didn't. Look...im starting to wander already....OK, im closing in on 110K now, nothing has been rebuilt and im wondering if its all going to "happen" at once? Maybe burst into flames like every Ford I've been near lately wether I owned it or not? I drove a new 98 Ranger for work (courier) and it was small to say the least, not to mention underpowered for a 4 banger. I dont like 4/automatic combos anyway. My 89 4 banger Dakota Base with man/tranny pulled a full load of wood, 1 dog 3 people and misc camping equipment up hills better than the ranger did with a few boxes in the bed downhills. Im not an incredibly tall guy, but 3 people in a Ranger and 3 people in a Dakota still mean I have to drive mashed against the window. But I cant reach the passenger side window handle from the driver side in my Dakota but could easily in the Ranger (and s-10). Stay tuned for more ramblings...
