Subject: Question about K&N cone filter. IP: Logged
Message: Yet another cold air question...sort of.
I just installed my homebrew intake. The K&N cone filter is exposed to the engine compartment. My question is this, is it okay for the filter to get wet from the spray off of the road like after it rains? Or should it be somehow protected?

Message: What, is it a retarded question or what? If it is just say so. I've never run a setup like this before, not that it is a huge deal or anything.

Message: Same question plus a couple :)
what kind of intake did you make? pvc?
how did you brace the piping/tubing without it just hanging there?
i've got all the parts to make one(with 3" pvc schedule 40) 2 45degree elbows. 8inch k&n filter, just have some minor questions about it.

Message: First I started with a 6"x6" K&N cone filter. Then I went to Home Depot and checked their plumbing dept and wasn't satisfied with their selection. I cruised down the hwy and pulled into Midas muffler and asked for a piece of exhaust pipe 3" in diameter and 14" long, 14 gauge wall...yeah i know kinda thick. Then I used two stainless hose clamps, one attatched from filter to pipe and the other from the pipe to the plastic intake hose which goes to the top of the TB. The filter end is zap tied to a hose for now down near the air intake located buy the front right fender.I will bend/weld a piece of stock to the bottom of the pipe and bolt the other end to the inside of the right fender. That's it for now.
Cost so far : 6x6 cone filter $45, pipe $10.Already had the clamps.

Message: I had the same concern about my K&N getting hit with all the crap off the road especially during the winter with salt on the road. I wasn't happy with the first length of PVC pipe that I used so I decided to make a longer length so now my filter sits almost right behind the drivers side headlight housing. I think it's pretty safe there.

Message: Just an ammendment to my last post. My K&N isn't behind the "driver's" side headlight like I had mentioned..it's behind the passenger side headlight housing (that's better). But like I said, it's well protected from the elements. Sorry about that!

Message: i have a 98 dak, V6 with a airraid intake. i took a piece
of sheet metal about 12 guage, about 10X8 made 2
brackets to bolt to the back of the sheet metal, and then
bolted them to the existing holes for the factory air box.
this took about 1 hour to do including waiting for the
paint to dry. have done some serious mudding, through
snow, rain etc., no problem!
