Subject: '92 HELP!! No Overdrive! IP: Logged
Message: We bought a 1992 Dakota V6 3.9. It won't shift into overdrive. It has a button which lights up, but that's all. I've taken it to AAMCO to check the transmission. For my FREE coupon check, they did a visual inspection and put it on their machine. They said that it was shifting fine on the machine. I understand that a certain temp has to be reached before it will shift. Where is the sensor that controls this? What is it called? Any help would be welcome. THANKS!

Message: Ken, here's the scoop on the problem. Does your cruise control work? If not the problem is most likely your vehicle speed sensor. This problem may or may not set your check engine light. There were some tsb's on overdrive problems not related to the speeed sensor but I don't remember what they said, maybe someone else knows. The speed sensor is external on your tansmission an available from most parts stores. Let me know if this helps...
