 Subject: Water pump removal

OK forget about the fan nut, but I cannot get the dang pump off. All bolts removed, have banged on it, pried on it and still no go. Any suggestions? I am stumpped. I must be missing something!

You infered that I was perhaps being a little to polite and sure enough you were right. Now to get the top hose off. Seems like a lame place to put it in the first place. Where does it go?

If you're refering to the short elboe going back into the block, it is refered to as a "bypass" hose at the autoparts stores,however, it does not bypass anything, it sends cool fluid into the water jackets in the head where "hotspots" are notorious. this is pure speculation on my part. I'm just a "carport piddler" and a pretty good B.S.er

Just replaced my pump a few weeks back.Get long nosed vise-grips to squeeze the hose clamp,and push the clamp back.The clamp has to be pushed back over the knob on the tube coming out of the pump.Get a screw driver and carefully pry between the hose and the pump,that should loosen it.

if you thought that hose was hard to get off, just wait till you try to get it back on... that took up 2 hours of my day yesterday...

Use the long nose vise-grips on the clamp.Lock it and move the clamp back and leave the grips on.Put form-a gasket on the tube on the pump and inside the hose to lube it a little.Push the pump into the hose before you bolt it back on.Worked for me.

Hmmm... when I got my Dak the first thing I had to replace was that hose cuz it had a nice sized slit in it. We didn't really have any problems at all taking the hose off or getting it back on. I guess it was just luck then:)

and it's also possibly b/c you weren't dealing w/ a 10 year old hose that's been that close to the engine block for so long... i did notice that the hose was pretty hard and not willing to give much

Yes, it is most likely the top bypass hose. I just got through removing mine and now it's 11:30 p.m. And yes, I've already thought about how hard it's going to be to get that sucker(bypass hose) back on. I didn't get started till about 7 p.m. Therefore I will be allowing myself an extra two hours to get that hose back on. I used channel locks, for lack of having any long nosed pliers, screwdriver, and alot of elbow grease. Twist the hose somehow to break it free.
