 Subject: 99 3.9L TB SWAP

After reading all past (& there are many) posts on TB's I still need some help. Just wanted to make sure on the TB cable. Went to the local dealer to purchase the cable for the V8 TB and the performance shop said for the 99 there all the same stock number 3.9/5.2/5.9 use the same cable. Am I missing something here? The past posts as I understand it, I need a different TB cable from the 3.9 TB to the 5.9 TB? Thanks for the help. YET another TB POST.

I did the swap and felt the difference!!!! but I noticed the intake opening on my 00 was smaller than the v8 tb.......so I took the intake off and hogged out the opening to match the tb, used the gasket as a guide. Felt more difference, just can't figure out why no one else is doing this. Makes no sense for the bigger tb when the intake opening is still the restriction point. It's a pain but worth it in my opinion. Try it you will like it!!!!!!!!

I installed an F&B throttle body on my '02 3.9, and I didn't feel ANY difference from stock. My truck is still a slug. I also thought about port matching the intake and the TB, but didn't want to take the risk of totally screwing up the intake manifold. Besides, as you said, I hadn't heard hardly anyone else mention that they'd had to do that to realize any performance gain from a TB swap. It does make sense to me, though, that that'd be the thing to do...

I had made the swap on my '98 3.9 about 8 months ago. However, I got a dremel for Christmas so I decided to port the old V6 TB that I still had laying around. I just put it on last night, but at first glance it seems quicker than with the V8 TB.
Mod list: Air Raid,Magnaflow,Split-Fire,180 Tstat,Brass cap/rotor,JBA Powerwires,relocated IAC.

kind of an unrelated topic... but can you swap the entire intake maifold for the 88 3.9 to the 92 3.9.. i was told it was different and would not go in my 88 ... so can i swap the intake and drop it in ?

Tim you should start a new thread instead of changing the subject. It's much easier to help you that way. People don't necessarily read "TB SWAP" posts hoping to find a question about intake manifolds from a completetly different model of Dakota in it. Sorry, I personally hate it when people dig up 2 year old posts just so they can change the topic.
