I have a 99 dakota club cab 2WD and there is a knock noise when i let off the brake pedal. It sounds like it is coming from the raer brakes but im not sure.It only happens when i stop at a stop light and sit for a few on the brake pedal.Had brake pads and rotors put on the front and wheel cyls. put on the rear about 2months ago.Anyone have an idea what could be wrong? Thanks for the help

If the noise is coming from the rear brakes you probably need new drums. 97-2000 Daks are pretty well known for cracked brake drums. I bet you have a hairline crack in the valley of every fin on each drum. Replace them before they explode.

When i had brake work done at midas they took me out to see it and the drums are pretty rusty but they said it would be a waste of money to replace them because it would just be like that in a couple months. Is there a way to find out if that is my problem before i replace them? And is there better brands of drums than others? Thanks for the help

The rear brakes may just need adjusting. If they are too loose they can make a noise when you release the peddle.

Yeah, happened to me....The rear drum hardware was shot. There are small springs that can break. Jack it up, take off wheel and drum, and check the springs. They easy to see, easy to replace. I think a hardware kit is like 19 bucks or something.
