Subject: Another muffler ? IP: Logged
Message: I was going to put a 50 series flowmaster on my 3.9L this weekend but the muffler shop owner talked me out of it. He said there are no noticeable HP gains, just the sound difference. I am a courier and am looking for ways to squeeze HP out of my little V6, not impress anybody. Would you say that this statement is true, that there is no HP gain in less backpressure? Thanks

Message: I live in Canada,in a province where there is emmision laws but they aren't checked. I cut off my cat.converter and replaced it with a small piece of straight pipe. There was no noise increase, but the power increase was really noticeable. So if you can't chop off your cat. and don't want to spend the dough on an after-cat system,i'm sure a free flowing muffler like flowmaster would have to make some difference.

Message: I definately felt a difference with my Flowmaster. With that mod, I was able to bark second gear.(auto) I think you should get the muffler, cause that dude prolly doesn't know what he's talkin about. I've got the "Big Block" 70 series, which was a direct fit with the stock muffler.

Message: All of the small mods add up to small increases in horsepower and fuel economy. I installed a 7" Intense Performance intake, Taylor wires and an Accel coil. They all helped. Re-locating the IAT sensor, and installing a 70-Series Flowmaster improved the performance even more. I love the 70-Series because it is quiet inside and outside the cab relative to the 50-Series (which can loosen your fillings at certain revs), and still gave performance results. Don't expect miracles with one mod or another, but in tandem, they really work.
