Message: The Dodge manual calls for trans fluid change and band adjustment at 36K miles. I spoke with a AAMCO transmission tech and he said there are not any bands to adjust thats its all electronic. I had the fluid changed at a local lube shop, however I am expierencing intermentent shift trouble, sometimes it wont go into 2nd or D, and runs up into 4k rpm, and this is at a moderate acceleration rate. It usually will shift after I back of the throttle and the rpms go back down to 2000 2500 rpm like it should. Also wont go into R at times. I've heard that I may need to retrain the computer by disconnecting the neg battery term.
Anyone have any ideas or similiar problems.

Message: My 99 3.9 auto sticks in second gear untill its fully warmed up. I can do at least 50 mph and it still won't shift to 3rd. When it starts to warm up, it will shift to 3rd but only when i let off the gas for a moment. Once i drive it for 15 to 20 minutes, it shifts fine. The dealer told me it needs a new tranmission but i don't think so. (the warranty is up of course). I think its just some kind of valve or solenoid that is sticking whne the tranny is cold.

Message: first, hay jon did they charge you $500 to tell you that stupid answer. no disrespect toward you man but scamco is notorious for big buck rebuilds that only last a couple of thousand miles. yes your trans is electricly operated, but it still has your standard auto trans internals.
slo dak, hate to hear it. I have a grand cher that does the same thing when it is cold. When it is warm it performs perfectly.

Message: John,
You did not specify which tranny or year truck you have. The 2001 v6 had a tranny change for the manuals and perhaps the autos as well. Check with your dodge dealer on any updates to mopar tranny fluids or equivalents for your truck year. The shop who serviced your truck might have used a lower grade fluid if their books did not show the current change. The wrong fluid can lead to all the problems you mentioned.

Message: I drive a 4cyl 99 dakota sport.. with 73k miles.. im also having trouble with my trans. my truck is a five speed and is also hard to shift when its not warmed up and whines bad. its as if the syncros get jammed up becuase i find myself having to stiff arm into gear while its cold.. maybe that just says it all? maybe dodge transmissions are junk... im wanting alltime awd so im thinking about just finding a wrecked lancer evo and swapping the engine and trans..

Message: Jon if the manual calls for the bands to be adjusted follow the directions exactly.... do it as the book says to do...change the fluid and the filter use the proper fluid.. the trans will self distruct if the wrong fluid is used.. My 92 auto wont shift into OD until the trans is warmed up..This is a DODGE thing..enjoy the sounduntil its warmed up.. change the filter and fluid quick. these trannys are expensive to have rebuilt.

Message: Some of the newer trannies DON'T have band adjustments, so it depends on what year Jon's truck is. AAMCO may be correct. "My 92 auto wont shift into OD until the trans is warmed up..This is a DODGE thing.."Read your owner's manual. This is what it is designed to do. O/D won't engage until the coolant temperature is 60F, and lockup won't engage until coolant is 140F. This is to prevent damage and wear. If yours delays more than this, you have a failed component somewhere. Check for stuck thermostat (code 17).

Message: I go ice fishing alot and wake up very early to do so. It was -21F when I woke up one morning this winter -45 windchill. Let my truck warm up for a good 10 minutes after it barely started. The trip to my local lake is 10 miles plus a couple mile drive out on the lake. It didnt shift into o/d for a good 8 or so miles. I thought something was wrong but I looked in the book and found out otherwise. So now when its very cold out I'll start the truck put it in drive and set the parking brake and let it warm up that way. Get them fluids a movin in the tranny.

Message: Yes they still have bands but I dought that is the
problem
96 and up RE electric gov pressure controll
Replace the pressure sensor and sol
another thing if they used dextron or any cheap
fluid it will cause problems
ATF +3 or +4
Amsoil syn
redline
these 3 fluids work very well
All the transmissions also had some issues with
presure valve buzz
sonnax makes a kit called the sure cure that
replaces the presure valve and spring and also
a redesigned lock up switch valve and the
distance from body to spring seat needs to be
.900 on the TCC valve torque converter lockup
