Subject: Replace water pump? NEED ADVICE! IP: Logged
Message: I was driving home from by brother's house last nite around 4am... I guess I shoulda let my truck warm up more before I took off. When it was sufficiently warmed, I took advantage of the empty country roads and found the top-speed of my truck, and how fast it could get there.(Top-speed is 105, and as for acceleration, it's not SLOW!) Anyway, I stopped at a redlight close to my house and noticed a lot of steam rising from around the hood. When I got home, I popped the hood and checked around the thermostat, waterpump, and hoses. There was a constant drip coming from the waterpump. Everything else is fine. Could the waterpump be blown, or only a gasket or seal loose? Either way, I gotta fix it with the help of a friend today, I am broke as it is. Anyone can give me any advice/tips on what could be wrong?
Thanks in advance for any guidance.:)

Message: Sounds like the seal around the bearing is shot.Just replaced mine which is a 99.Very time consuming, but can be done if you take your time.Had a rough time getting the fan and clutch off pump.Tricky getting bypass hose back on.Got long nose vise-grips to hold hose clamp back.Put form-a-gasket on tube coming out of pump and inside hose to lube it a little.Worked out fine.Check your ball joints next.

Message: Check your bypass hose first, My 99 was doing the same thing and it turned out to be the bypass hose weeping, no cuts or holes just a steady weeping from the hose.
