Message: I posted a message about 2 days ago but got no reply's. Thought i would try again. Put an intake on my 3.9 2002 dakota and really did not notice a difference. I think the truck actually runs better with the factory air box installed. Are intakes over rated for dakotas? I took it off and put a drop in K&N in instead and took the elbow off and ran tubing to the front flap at the radiator. I'm worried water is gonna get in the airbox, is this a potential problem? any info would be greatly appreciated

Message: what kind of intake did you install? i know you probably already have but did you make sure ALL the connections and what not are all in place? something small could lead to something big. is this your first and only mod? if so, remember that all mods work with each other. throwing in an intake by itself usually won't help much BUT installing oher mods that compliment each other will. for example, my first mods (more of a tune-up) were the basics: brass cap & rotor, msd wires, 3923's, etc., etc. there were no performance improvements at this point, just a "smoother," more relaxed feeling engine. THEN, i spent some dough and installed a gibson single-out exhaust and an f&b 48mm tb. things were finally starting to improve. passing and merging was a lot better and my mileage improved IF i didn't "stab" it so much. i am mostly excited about my next mod, my girl bought me a k&n fipk which her friend from 4wheel parts said he could install on my v6 with a little "fabrication" here and there. at that time, i will also relocate the iat. can't wait! but my point is, be patient. you will have to do a lot more things to the engine before it wakes up. start with the basics! hope this helps.........
oh yeah, there are a lot of folks in this board that are super helpful. check around, you'll see what i mean.

Message: Most intakes only add about 5 horsepower even when they say they add 15, it all depends on the individual vehicle's charecteristics, mods, etc, as to how much your truck will gain. I've heard that it is almost impossible to feel a gain of less then 20hp in the "seat of your pants" so maybe it works but you just don't feel it. In my opinion when people say they felt an amazing increase in power with a new air filter i think it's mostly a psychological thing.

Message: I made simular mods to my air box. Remember the path to the air box is up hill and the air box has a water drain hole in it. Unless you get caught in a real bad downpour; water shouldn't be a problem. I run mine for over a year and only had two bugs make it to the air cleaner. I changed the inlet hose to four inch flex hose from a sawdust catcher. No big power gain, just looks good.
