Subject: Clogged Cat IP: Logged
Message: Hey guys. Not a Dakota owner myself but my dads Dak is having probs. There was a smell of rotten eggs coming from the exhaust and I thought it had a converter that was going bad. Well when I replaced O2 sensor (needed it anyway) and reconnected the cut wire the smell went away. Im still gonna cut the converter off anyway but do yall think it is bad still

Message: Nothing wrong with the cat. Smell probably caused by bad O2 sensor causing engine to run rich. Cat was just doing it's job.

Message: If I take the cat off will it lose hp or tq and how much. It should only be lost in the lower RPM range. Ive been wanting to do it for a while but I havent had time to work on it.

Message: If it was clogged you would know it because the thing wouldn't want to accelerate. BTW if you happen to get a tank of gas with high sulfer content you will smell the rotten eggs even if the truck is running right and the cat is fine.

Message: Had a dealer tell me my cat was clogged and I needed a new TB position sensor. I asked the female service writer if that was true why did I just get back from a 850 mile trip and average 22 mpg on the V6? she had no answer. Me thinks she was trying to get work in for her mechs under warrentee. Did not go for it. I took it in for a bad AC and she also said that it was under the dash where the problem is and would cost me 900 to fix. Based on the other two things she claimed I said no thanks. When to the biggest dealer in the area and they put die in it,showed me where there were 15 or so points the evaporater? (whatever is in front of the radiator) was leaking. The one on the Dak was a crash replacement part by APC. Never again will I autherize non- mopar parts. cost a lot less to fix.
