It has come to that time that I need to replace my tires. My truck 1990/2000 crossover has the tire and handling package and and has the 255/65R15 on it now and the rim is 8 inches wide. Since the tires are kinda expencieve and are made by only 2 companies I was woundering if 235/75R15 would fit and not rub. I know that these tires are skinner but my dak looks like a pussy truck with the tires that are on it now.

Acually the new ones will be .9" taller and your speedometer will read 60 when your doing 62.Also the newer ones will be almost an inch skinnier. I went with 275-60-15's which are closer in hight and almost an inch wider.

Jim,

What tire brand did you go with? Was it Pirelli Scorpions zeros? I was debating about tires too. I wanted to get a good all around tire. I have the stock Goodyears LS 255/65-16 whick are god awfull in the snow. I thought about Kumhos, Scorpion STs or Michelins. If I upgrade to 275/60-16, I would be relegated to Scorpions zeros. I thought about buying R/T wheels and wraping them with 275/55-17 Dunlop SP Sport 5000.

Hey NJQCDak,
I have a set of those Dunlops (275/55/17) that your talking about. They aren't bad but they are heavy. At this moment I have about 12,000 miles on them. When they finally die I am going a bit smaller (255/50/17). The 275's are about 1" taller than the stock 265/55/15 that came on my truck.

Hmmmmmm. Thanks QckSlvrDak. I didn't think about that. I got a little while away. Maybe I'll think about staying with the stock size. Although I have 16 inch rims. The stock size is cheaper.

I got BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. I handle way better in the snow and rain but I don't know if its because they are almost an inch wider or because its a better tire.

Pirelli Scorpion Zeros are GREAT! - super in the wet and dry, but unbelieveably bad in snow.

I had the same problem a few weeks back. I've got an 01 w/the 16" rims but the same problem. I went to the tire rack (www.tirerack.com ) and found a few opitions. I ended up getting the Kumho Esaca's. I got to tell you these tires are hands down the best tires I've ever owned. directional truck tires gota love it. Great wet traction, and not bad in the snow either.

Good to hear from you Smitty1000. So those Kumhos are highly recommended? Where do you live? Was the snow a couple of inches? What did you do with goodyears LS? Did you wear them out? Thanks.

I agree i also have the Kumhos (275/55R17) I love the way they handle both in dry and wet conditions. I got mine at discount tire. Very, very inexpensive. They also threw in chrome valve stems for free.

NJQCDak- I live in Connecticut. since I put the tires on it has snowed about 10 inches.I've got no weight in the truck and got around fine. Of course its raining now and the snow is all gone. New England weather got to love it! YES I highly recommend the Kumho tires. As far as the goodyear's I wore them out to nothing. I drive 120 miles a day. Those tires flat out suck! There is a night and day difference. I will definitely buy these again.

Hay how's the TB working out?

The TB is the greatest mod but expensive. Cheaper alternatives are Fastman and Stock V8 TB. The F&B TB makes better hp and torque over the Stock V8 TB swap. I had a good deal with Bernd. I think there is a group buy going. Thanks for the info on tires. I got to wait a little while to wear out my Goodyears.

JIM I have bfg radial t/a's on mine too, With almost 33,000 on them this is the first winter that I have had trouble with them . Seems as if all the traction has gone away. Last winter they worked fine. A few weeks ago we had 4 inches of snow, but not salting was done, and damm near lost it while cruising the hiway at 40 mph all of a sudden it went sideways on me I was not using cruise control.. Slowed down to 25 the rest of the way in. A young fella I work with has a 2000 4X4 dak with the factory tires yet and he noticed the same thing, much less traction/controll this year. Just to forewarn you they get slippery in the snow when worn but not close to worn out. Probly have 20,000 on them till I get to the wear markers.

It depends on how cold it is. The Bfg's are way better than the stockers but I don't care what kind of tire you have if its icy and you go any faster than 25 you could break loose.
