Subject: Replace my plenum gasket for $1200+ !?!?
IP: Logged

Message:
I'm in San Diego, California and have a 1997 Dodge Dakota, V6 with approximately 68k miles on it. I recently had problems with it and took it to the dealer who cited that it would need a new Plenum Gasket. He then quoted me a price, after parts and labor and all that jazz, for around 1200 bucks.

Am I being ripped off here? Anyone got any suggestions, or will I just have to bite the bullet.

Any comments would be appreciated,
thanks in advance
-Brad

Hell yes you are getting ripped off! That job shouldn't cost more than $500 anywhere in the U.S. for the labor. The manifold gasket set ( Intake to head gaskets, end seals, & bolts) and the plenum base gasket and new bolts with locktite on them should not cost over $100. They will prolly sell you a couple gals of antifreeze also. For that price you could bring it here to Missouri and I could fix it and drive back and it still would be cheaper! Go to another dealer and get a different quote.

My friend had a 98 Dakota with the 318, and it only costed him $300. This was done in Wisconsin and not by a dealer.
