Subject: V6 02 Dakota Question IP: Logged
Message: I currently own a brand new 2002 3.9 V6 Dakota 5speed manual. I've noticed every once in awhile in the mornings my engine will sound different. I'll start the engine and it sounds like its steadily reving up and then drops back down and then idles. Then when I start moving it'll steadily rev up and slowly drop back down. All the while I'll have very bad acceleration. Usually this will happen during cold mornings.
Is this normal?
Thanks.

Sounds like your describing the Viscous Fan Drive, it's fluid filled once it warms up it quiets down. If you run a search on it here you will find you aren't the only one that has experienced it.
