I have a 95 SLT 3.9L (218K miles, no mods) that will die very randomly. Usually it happens while driving. When I try to restart it, I noticed that the tach doesn't move. After a couple of minutes and several attempts to restart it, the tach needle will bounce and it will start only to die again several times and then it will run fine. It only does this about once or twice a month, but makes for a very dangerous commute. I've replaced the battery, plugs, plug wires, coil, coil wire, distributor cap, rotor, cam position sensor, fuel pump assembly, and O2 sensor. Any ideas on what to try next? Thanks in advance for any help.
Greg

Thanks for the suggestion. However, I may have gotten my terminology wrong. I thought the pickup in the distributor was the cam position sensor. Anyhow, that has been replaced. Any chance that it could have been defective out of the box?

Greg.
Did you look at the power distribution center, under the hood? The 95's had a corrosion problem on the underside of the wire block. It caused intermitent stalling and starting problems as well as dash gauge probs.
