Subject: 1.7RR and headers IP: Logged
Message: I want to get 1.7 RR for my truck and was wondering if I should get headers to compliment this mod. Are they necessary? And is stock exhaust with hiflow muffler sufficient?
V8 TB, MSD6A, K&N, IAT mod, TPS mod, Autolites, Magnaflow muffler, bw cap/rotor, jba 9mm wires

Message: you dont need the headers to have the 1.7 rr. Now if you are just needing an excuse to buy the headers.... then sure... "you need headers to use 1.7 rr on your truck!"

Message: No, you don't NEED headers. The stock manifolds will work with the rockers and give you a decent boost, as Dan said. But, the stock manifolds don't have gaskets, and broken studs are a big PITA on Dakotas, I've come to find out. Besides, headers just look so darn much better than those rusty old manifolds. I had the $$ at the time, so I sprung for the silver ceramic headers. They're still nice and shiny, they do improve exhaust flow, and I don't have to worry about studs breaking off in the head. I just wanted them, so why not?

Message: Thanks for the input guys!
Does anybody know what the increase in RPM's is when changing from a 3.55 rear end to a 3.91 under normal driving conditions and does it hurt fuel economy?

Message: The gear change will raise the rpms about 200 rpms at 60mph. I've heard that most people gain mpg because the truck accelerates off the line quicker with giving it less gas.
