Message: About 14.5 volts should be about normal. There are aftermarket alternators that have higher output. Be careful of alternators that show a very high voltage. They can burn out batteries, radios and computers.

Message: You guy's with OBD II trucks the PCM controls the output of the charging circuit via the battery temp. sensor
The PCM increases charging system voltage at colder temps. and decreases at warmer temps.

Message: BoaDakota your battery at full charge puts out 13.8 volts nominal meaning some batteries are naturally a little higher and some naturally a little lower. If the voltage from the alternater is less, then your battery will discharge, if the voltage to it is higher, the battery will charge.
Here's a bad joke "Battery over charging? Take away it's credit card!"
