Subject: Replacing my fule filter IP: Logged
Message: I need to replace my fuel filter for my 2001 Dakota. I went to Autozone and Napa and they both dont sell the filter. I believe NAPA said the last year they sold the filter was for 93. On my old Chevy Lumina the filter was underneath the middle of the car. Is the filter in the gas tank or is it external? Why I need to change my filter is for this reason. 1) I used to run 87 octane gas in my truck. Everything ran fine. THen I started using 91 Octane to prepare my truck for the Jet chip I purchased. Well, after a couple tanks of premium for some stupid reason I went back down to 87. Boy did that mess things up. My engine started knocking and acting really funny. Now the only way to keep it running after I start it in the moring is to give it a little gas and put it into drive. Afte that it runs fine all day. A couple of people told me that my fuel filter needed replacing. Also is this serviceable at the dealership? Im still under warrenty, but im sure they hate me for going there so much. ANy help would be appreciated. Thanks

Message: I have a '94 and the fuel filter is a screen in the fuel pump in the tank.
I don't think that it has changed for newer dakotas.

Message: I have a 92 and the fuel filter is under the drivers side of the truck on the inboard side of the frame. A 1/2 in blolt from the top side secures it. I just saw the filter at Walmart for about $10. Get a couple of new hose clamps too before you start. Remember that the system is pressurized.
