Subject: 2-wheel burnout?? IP: Logged
Message: hey everybody, it's been over a month but i'm proud to say i represented for the gen 3 dakotas in the burnout contest at Slamfest in Tampa. (there was a BADASS old-school kota there with ithink a 383 that i'm pretty sure won it. that thing was BAAD!) But i went up against a pretty stock f150 and got jipped by the judge, but i had the crowd. and i didn't puss out; i kept my 18s on! i wish i had pics but my camera crapped out. But it was FUN AS HELL!!!
ANYway, i was wondering if there's any way to get both wheels spinning? or if i can get more smoke if i put it in second gear (it's stick) i was gonna shift it into 2nd during, but i didn't want soemthing to happen to make me look like a jackass. I wanna win next time. Any help?
-Dan

Message: i thought i had limited-slip, and needed Posi.? But i was talking about things i could DO, besides changing my differential, (or getting an R/T.) But besides that, will i get more smoke in 2nd gear? Thanx

Message: hook up little squirters in your fender wll and put either tranny fluid or baby oil in it so when you press a button it squirts on the tires.. that will make more smoke and no 2nd gear isint gonna give you more smoke.. hell i can barely do a burnout in my truck with posi 5 speed 3.9vsux..

Message: Second gear will give you more smoke cause the tires spin faster and get hotter, just as long as you have enough horsepower to keep em spinning in second.

Message: Jon is right, in an old friends 94 v-6 just power brake it and wind it up in first and if your quick enough you can shift to second and still have enough RPM's to keep it going and get them tires burnin faster. Just remember though, the faster they go the hotter, stickier, and sooner they can blow! Be careful, lol.

Message: my 94 2wd has limited slip in the rear. she does mad burnouts I have a set of wheels and tires for burnouts. I run 205/70/15's on this set of rims. if you lower the tire size it effectivley raises your gear ratio, try it sometime.

Message: thanx guys, that's pretty much what i thought, just wanted some other opinions. i also thought that maybe if i got it in 2nd and going fast enough, it might break the other tire loose...?
i'll try that next time.:)

Message: I used to know a guy that extended and ran his windshield washer fluid hoses to his back tires so he could pump bleach on his tires to smoke better

Message: Just a thought thought. If your gonna use bleach be careful. They quit using it with drag racing because it had a tendacy to catch the tires on fire once it got real hot.

Message: I bought my truck 16 months ago and i used to hate my dakota. I bought a 2001 Patriot Blue Dakota Sport Club Cab with a 3.9/auto trans/3.55 gears. Since i've bought it i've lowered it 3 inches in the front and 5 in the rear. I added 245/50/ZR16" rubbers , clear corners, a steel sir michales rollpan, and a kicker solo baric L7-12. After these mods in addition to a couple other, i've really started to like my truck. But no matter how slow my truck is, i will always appreciate its ability so light em up. My V6 engines' lack of horse power is well made up with well suplied amount of torque. But now i'm in the bind that i have to buy 1 $200 tire because my open rear leaves me in a one wheel wonderland. Of all of the burnouts that my one Right Rear 245/50ZR16 tire has survived through, i don't think that i caught one picture of it. Once i do though, it will be the first of me and my friends cars' "WALL OF BURNOUTS" sorry for the long post but just wanted to say that dakotas and burnouts rock.

Message: hey goober try and switch your 2 rear tires side to side. that should make it last longer. I work in a tire shop and we do that for "radial pulls" its usually kids with hondas that do burnouts and they think its out of alignment. They're thrilled when they can spend the 50 dollars they saved on an alignment on new "horsepower stickers" as we call 'em in the shop.

Message: well I would just like to say that i own a 2000 dakota sport 5 speed that does a better burn out in 2nd. gear then in 1st. You need to understand that when your in 1st gear you keep the motor at the rev limiter you can only put out so much power at that point when you shift into 2nd and you can and dont worry the 3.9 has plenty of torque and HP to keep you spinning. as for having a lot of smoke buy a pair of BFGoodrich Radials man you wanna talk about smoke once you get them burning you will love it. as for a posi rear end the only way you will get one is buy replacing the stock one with an after market one they come stock with a limited slip my friends. but if you go with a smaller tire then stock you will spin them faster to. but hey thats coming from a kid who leaves rubber in first, second, and can chirp third that only put an underdrive pully on the motor so other then that its completely stock

Message: Hey 2000 3.9, thanx for the input. That's another thing i LOVE about my truck: that I could always get some good "more than chirp" in third. I could always make my friends and brother jealous (until my brother got his civic bored out and turbod. Believe it or not, he has about 400 HP!!!@20lbs of boost.) Anyway....
Also, how do u shift into 2nd while burning out? How do u press the clutch?
Thanks agin

Message: when I shift into second i push the clutch all the way in and i stomp on the gas as i do it hold the clutch in for about a second or 2 then just dump the clutch and it should work that what i do to mine and i havent had any problems with it if you wanted to try it go to an empty parking lot with a lot of strait running distance cause once you get into second the truck will take off and still spin like crazy and you will get a crazy stip out of your tire but hey im glad to hear from ya good luck smokin your tires man

Message: Still thinking of welding the spider gears. Any thoughts. My x-boss did it on a dirt track car. He would test drive it on a paved road when not at the track. Never had any problems.
