Message: I have the 3.21 in my 93 dakota. I have been looking around in some junkyards for a rearend out of another dakota that has one of the better gears. Will any dakota rear end work, or does it have to be the same year or generation as mine? And did they put a 3.92 gear in my year dakota? All help is appreciated.

Message: The information should be imprinted somewhere in the glove box or the should be a plate screwed to the diff cover.
If that doesn't help, take your VIN number to your closest dealer and they can print out what came with your truck.

Message: I have a 99 Dak, 3.9 with the AX-15 tranny. It came with the 3.21's. I changed them out to 3.91's and added a posi unit. You will see a huge change by doing this. I have no complaints. I had a shop in southern cali do it for me its called Unitrax (www.gounitrax.com, 714-630-4327), they charged me 918.00 that includeed the grears, posi unit, and all the labor and the first oil change for it. I dunno if that was a god price or not but i'm hapy with it.

Message: Neil - the changes are huge. before i did the gear change i had the cold air intake, the jet module, and 3 inch cat back exhaust. With this alone (don't know how) i could keep up with the 5.2's all the way through 5th gear. I thought this was a fluke at first but i raced a good 10 people with 5.2's (friends of mine) and i could constantly keep up with them. Anyway, with the 3.91's (with posi) and the high flow cat i can take them with no problem. I get a huge jump off the line and from there i'm gone. I don't know if i just have a strong V6 or what.

Message: So you saw a big difference with the gears racing around, but how is it just driving around? I drive on the highway a lot. Did your gas mileage go way down, did it affect your daily city driving mileage? My tire size is also slightly bigger than the stock SLT tire and wheel package. (17x8 wheels and 275/55/17 tires soon to be 255/50/17 I know tire size will affect the overall gearing in the end)
00' Quad Cab, Airaide intake, 48mm F&B throttle body, JBA headers, 3" Dynomax catback exhaust

Message: I got the 3.21 ratio on my V6 and the 5 speed. I can get quite a nice launch and bark nicely into 2nd no problem. Sometimes, if I am just right, I can get it to chirp into 3rd (not often enough). I think the only reason I would keep these gears is the fact that I get over 25 mpg with city driving. I cant beat many of the tuners out there, but who cares, I beat them at the gas station!
of course, all that is for crap if I can find a set of 3.55's or 3.93's for a good price (a really good price).
LOL.
