I took an '87 4x4 and dropped a 318 in it after the orgional motor blew. I picked up the 318 for $150 from a friend of mine. Ran great, dropped it in there and the thing still runs to this day. It is possible, however, I had to cut the firewall just a little so the distributor cap fit in the back. Besides that just moving around some motor mounts etc. Not too hard, except when it came to the wiring. That was what took the longest. Just make sure you diagram and mark everything really well before you pull the 6 out.

Hey guys,
You guys are killing me. I never said that this couldn't be done. Putting a V8 in a 2WD dak is pretty easy (to a point). Look at my ride list. What I was trying to say was that there isn't a kit out there (yet) for the 4WDs. Obviously it can be done. Look at Steven (justme1). Anyways, the whole pain in the butt with the 4WD is the front diff. That's why (i guess) Steven had his firewall cut for his distributer and stuff. The engine has to be set back farther to clear the front diff. Correct me if I'm wrong Steven. Anyways, keep on modding and don't quit just because there aren't kits for it. Where there's a welder, there's a way, right?

I have a 1990 dak with a 3.9 in it right now and am looking at putting in a 340 in it i realize that there will be problems with the oil pan (some custom work may need to be done) and that the fan clearing the rad might set me bak but i think i have that licked i was just wondering what you used for exhaust manifolds or if it is possible to bolt headers on with proper clearance .

anything can be done. after the engine came apart w/ some help of an ex-girlfriend, foud a 350 chev. for $100 dropped that in her. Fits like it was ment to be. don't be afraid to tweek stuff out of the way to make it work, but it is painfull to take a torch & hammer to a header fresh from the box :( anywho, good luck and don't let it stress you out!!

I ahve a 1990 dakota 2 WD and want to put a 360 in it. Iam having a problem with the mounts. The truck came with a 3.9. The mounts on the V-6 are the "ear" type mounts.How do I make the mounts on the 360 work.
