Looks like I won't be modifying my dakota after all. I just got a speeding ticket today. My 2nd one while I'm still under the age of 18. Meaning: Not only am I going to be on 'high risk' with the insurance, I'm going to lose my license for a minimum of 90 days. If I get the same judge as last time he guaranteed me that he'd extend it to 6 months just because I was in there once and that was too many times. I guess I'm royally screwed. At least this time wasn't for me flying down a city road... I was on my way to a four-wheeler shop down a state highway.I don't have cruise. I thought I was doing about 63 and while i was talking to my friend my speed ventured up to 68 and that's when the trooper flipped on his lights and came back for me.
God this sucks...
Anyways, like most of you really care, but I guess I'm probably not gonna be bugging you guys with questions for quite a loooong time.
Later,
Josh (GB2000)

Josh, where do you live? 68 doesn't sound that fast, unless you were in a 55 zone.

well look at it this way. you'll save money on gas
you can just save for mods. and you'll have plenty
of time for ideas. and just cause you got a ticket
doens;t mean its gonna catch up with your
insurance. if your insurance company ask you if
you got any tickets you have to tell them, however
they don;t always go looking for it. i know a guy
who got two DUI's in one year and it never caught
up with his insurance. so jsut hope for the best
in that case. and yeah where do you live. i'm 21
and have 7 points in MD. 5 more and the take it
away. but two should be leaving come spring.
anyways good luck and hopefully it'll work out

I'm in Ohio. I was caught speeding in a 55 out in the middle of BFE. I didn't MEAN to speed though...that time. One place I try not to speed is on highways because of the number of troopers I see. While I was talking to my friend I must have just given the gas a bit more pressure and ended up gaining about 5 more mph than I thought I was doing. The only reason I'm losing my license is because I'm under 18. State law says that after your second offense you lose your license for a minimum of 90 days and have to take a remedial driving course... what joy...

Josh,
Sucks. Plain and simple, sucks. Can I make a suggestion? Since you're not going to be driving for a while and you (like me) have a condition that causes your left foot to become increasingly but un-noticably heavier while driving in the middle of BFE, why not make cruise control your 1st mod? I bought a factory kit for my truck from McKinney Dodge, installed it myself in about 2 hours. Without a doubt the best Saturday afternoon project I ever spent my hard earned coin on. So far, it has saved me from at least a dozen tickets. And, it was less expensive than a new throttle body from F&B or Fastman, not to mention what the tickets would cost me. If you decide to do this and want some tips, or advice, please feel free to e-mail me. Besides, you get a kick out of the email addy (yes it is General Motors).

My advice, Take it to court.
Once you get to court you have the
chance that the officer will not show.
And you will be let off. If he does show
then you always have the option to plead
guilty and pay your ticket.

I have done this on numerous ocasions
and its has worked twice. I will be going
again real soon to contest yet another ticket.

There are many ways to get out of them.
I can tell you differnt ways to attack the
cop at the stand and make him look like an idoit

now you know thats..................

I belive one way was to find out when the last servicing was done on the radar gun. They HAVE to be serviced so many times a year. And I am unsure about their, but where I'm at a cop can not give you a ticket buy just following you, he has to actually clock you. It would have been better had you somehow got the first ticket wipped off, a clean record to begin with is always better. Yes, many was to get off of tickets, just takes some talking, and fishing thru holes.

As a juvinile in ohio he could easily gotten the first one wipped out IF he would have gone to remedial traffic school My Daughter was caught doin 33 in a 20(school zone) went to court paid the fine and costs out of her own pocket, then went to traffic school and got off with no points or record in Columbus. Too bad you did not do that your first time, now you gots ta pay.

Are you kidding me?!?!
We asked the judge what I could do to get it wiped off my record and he said nothing. He said I could get it wiped off when I was 18 if I went to court and requested it or something like that, but that was it. I guess that's one more reason to hate that judge. He never once mentioned remedial traffic school. I believe this time I'm required to go to it though if I want my license back. I've also been pretty much guaranteed to lose my license for 6 months this time. My dad's gonna contact and attorney and see what can be done. If anything can be done it looks like I'll be going to court and maybe not getting as harsh of a punishment...I doubt it though.

I got a 79 in a 55 when i was under 18, i plead guilty and the judge knocked it down to a praking ticket. I highly doubt that he will take your license away for going 12mph over the speed limit, maybe he just said that the first time to scare you into slowing down.

no not kidding at all. Happened in Sylvania Ohio in front of the catholic elementary school on South Main school had just let out and she was on her way to the auditorium at Lourdes College. She went to Lucas County Juvinile Court. Judge Flores. The week after court she had to sit through a, I don't remember 4 or 6 or whatever, hour class. No points on her record and when she turned 18 no record at all. Then the bonehead got nailed for 83 in a 65 on 75 down near Wapakoneta, that one stuck as she was over 18 then. If you get a second one before 18 in Ohio all bets are off and they nail it too ya! Hate to tell you but you may not be drivin till your 18 now. That 63 you thought you were goin might have triggered his radar anyway as I know up in this corner of the state, the troopers set them for 7 over. I have a habit of 5 over unless a school zone and have never gotten speed when using that habit. The times I went over , I have slowed down then looked in my mirror to see a cop on my but( my 79 Turbo Cobra Mustang was drag racing a Thunderbird Turbo Coupe just moments before, I won, but only because I over-rode my wastegate), and once even got nailed for it, but never when staying within 5. Dana used to sell an after market cruise unit that was as far as the under the hood components, identicle to the one that was in my 73 Charger SE Had it in the turbo stang and it worked fine, later put it inna Chebbie Celibrity and sold the car with it installed.

hey guys, i was just reading this string here and some say go to court and check the srevice record on the radar gun. That is exactually what you should do. I don not know how it works in court down the the US, i am from Canada. but the cops here have to calibrate the radar everyday at the start of their shift not just monthly or yearly but everyday and they have to keep a record of that. also check if the cop was driving towards you or if he was sittong still. if he was sitting still check if the radar gun is hard mounted to the dash. if it is hard mounted and he was sitting in a drivway with the car pointing out towards the road. If the cop was 90 degrees to the road with a hard mounted radar gun then there is now way he picked you up for speeding because there is a certain angle that the radar has to be to pick you up and be accurate. if he wasnt with in that then its a false reading. CASE DISMISSED and right now. he can argue all he wants but he should know the instructions on how to use the gear in his car if he doesnt then he shouldnt be in there at all

hope this helps

Alright, maybe you all would be able to help more if I gave some more info.

I was told that he clocked me doing 68 (in a 55).
It was pretty much dusk (but he just marked cloudy on the ticket). He was coming towards me in the opposite lane and it was dark enough that I couldn't tell he was a cop (until his sirens turned on and he pulled a U-turn). Either way I wouldn't have thought much right as I saw him since I didn't realize I was going that fast yet. On the ticket he checked Radar and Air as the method(s) he clocked me with or whatever. If that doesn't help much, could someone please explain what that checkmark on Air meant like how it works and such? It wasn't one of those helicopter radar trap things either since there were no big white lines on the road for them to use to clock me...unless they use a new method for clocking with helicopters.

if you fight the Air thing, the cop will just re-issue the ticket with a correction. Get him to testify air and then have the Air officer testify too, that might help. That and a good lawyer.

I dont see how HE IN HIS CAR can radar you since he was moving. Never been able to see how that works.
I am also now sure how the air part works either.
I'm sure if you dig, you can figger a way out of it.
Do look into the servicing of the guns, on BOTH units. I know someone who got off that way.
Plus like some others said, I belive the cop does have to appear in court. If they dont, its either dismissed, or reduced to "parking" or some BS like that.

Your screwed, as a trooper I can attest that I can measure speed sitting still, moving, in either/any directions. I get paid O.T. to go to court, I love that! Good luck, some <18yr old trying to make a Trooper look like an idiot in court. Been there, it only backfires on the violater. Lets go ahead and sign you up for the class.

Holy crap this is an old post...

Just an update on that since it seems I never did post one. My dad had talked to an attorney and he said I was screwed and to just plead guilty and take what was coming. I got 2 points on my license, my ass ripped by the same prick magistrate, $30 fine (or maybe it was $25) + court costs, and a 120 day license suspension. I was also given privileges to drive straight to/from school which I "stretched" a lil and usually took the backroads home which added an extra 10 miles onto my trip...lol. Anyway...that was a couple years ago. I'm over 18 now and haven't had any tickets since (still speed, just a lot more carefully). I also have a good fuzzbuster (which has saved my ass many times, and could have really screwed me over many times had I relied on it) and I also have a CB. That one works much better than the fuzzbuster on the interstate.
