Subject: Spark Plugs and Such IP: Logged
Message: Hello,
I was wondering if I changed to autolites or comparable plugs would change my mpg. I also would like to know what kind of wires to buy and how they would benefit me also.
Thanks,
Ryan

Message: Last week when I checked my mileage I got 18.5.
Over the weekend I put the Autolite 3923's and Borg Warner Cap and Rotor in and now I'm getting 19.1. Both are highway miles. These are the only mods I've done so far. Hopefully a muffler next.

Message: You will probably see a bigger difference in MPG by changing to better performance spark plug rather than wires depending on how you run your truck. The greater the diameter of the wires, the less resistance there is for the electricity to run from your distributor to the plugs which in turn allows for a more effecient spark. I would say go with a good 8mm wire set and you should be fine. Anything above that would be a waste unless you plan on running street races with your truck. Your best bet is to look up the ohm resistance of several different wire sets and see what kind of performance you are looking for.

Message: the wire inside most plug wire seta are pretty much the same size the 7mm 8mm or even as big as 10mm refers to the size of the insulation around the wire. Cap and rotor will make a diff. esp if the old ones were aluminum contacts and were bably corrded and you went with brass contacts. New plugs vrs. new plugs, not a whole lot if any, old plugs to new plugs, slight diff. as long as the same heat ranges are used in the comparison.
