Subject: MSD OR JACOBS IP: Logged
Message: I was thinking of installing a performance ignition in my truck and was wondering which is better the MSD or the jacobs, I like the jacobs because it is more of a plug in aplication then the msd (I think) I have a 90 Dak CC 4x2 Auto with the 3.9 only mods are a k&n filter and edelbrock tubular exhaust(Cheap shorty headers that repalced stock exhust manifold)and a flex fan(No Clutch). thanks for the input.
PS what would be a good spark plug for the pre mag 3.9

Message: and says"Throttle bodies are for trucks with multiport fuel injection, with one fuel injector in each intake port for each cylinder. TBI is throttle body injection which has a single or in some cases, duel fuel injector in the trottle body, sort of an improved carborator. The two systems are not compatable, and to go from tbi to a throttle body with FI in every port requires the replacement of the intake manifold, fuel system, adding a fuel rail, fuel injectors, a new computer, a throttle body, wiring harness for the fuel injectors, and many other parts. A throttle body spacer has, by virtue of being tested by many on this board proven itself useless on all but the 4.7 V-8." on the other q, it comes down to a matter of personal preferance and budget. Any plug that is = to the originals will work, but individual trucks may require a slightly hotter or cooler heat range plug then stock. Now for the bonus question How many of you know what in the design of a spark plug, actually determines the plug's heat range. Hint: it has to do with the insulator.

Message: I believe the correct answer is...(drum roll)...the length of the insulator!...(cymbal crash). And, my wife thinks that I spend all this time reading boring car crap on the internet for nothing!

Message: I realize a tb from a newer truck will not work for me but I was wondering if a v8 of the same year would have the "improved carborator" like I do with larger ports and would it fit my manifold. if so would this give any benifit.
Thanks

Message: Go with MSD. Had a Jacobs a few years ago on a mustang and it went to crap after a few months. Jacobs customer service replied with: It is out of warranty sir, we can't help you. The warranty period is very short to begin with. Just my experience with them. Hope this helps.
