Message: When you figure this out, please let me know. It sounds like my 92. Mine cuts out, pops, goes weak after accelerating hard for about 10 seconds, will cure itself if you turn the key off and back on.

Message: I finally found the problem: A worn distributor with sideplay much greater than the service manual limit of .004" (like .027"). This was enough to cause the "sync ring" (under the rotor baseplate) to strike the hall effect pickup and knock the ring loose. This messed up the fuel injection timing, from what I figure in the service manual.

Message: unplug the coil wire from the dist. cap
take your shoes off and stand in a puddle of water, hold the end tightly in your fingers - now have someone sit in the truck and crank it over

Message: I have a question that I hope somebody could answer. I recently bought a 94 dodge dakota from an employee of mine. I decided to buy the parts for a tune up...and was told that the fuel filter is part of the fuel pump and isn't changed seperate. I've always owned GM before but liked dakota but all my experience with GM this has never been the case with filters. I would never have believed it if the person who told me wasn't working at an auto parts store.... My long winded question is; is that statement true, the fuel filter is part of the fuel pump on a 94 dodge dakota. The truck is 2wd ext. cab, 3.9 liter v-6.
Thanks
Jon

Message: Jon, I'll check my service manual when I get home on the filter. My 92 has the filter on the frame rail, but IIRC at one point they did put them in the tanks. There is a sock on the pump-that may be what the parts guy was talking about.
Fuel filter is a scheduled maintenence item, but not with all tune ups.
Jon (I see you know how to spell, too)
