Message: That depends I guess, on what type of Camery it is? If it's old and tired, definatly. :0)
I don't know much about newer Camery models, but I know the one a classmate of mine drives (late 80s?) is a total clunker. If it's like that one, a friggen -TRICYCLE- with a fat guy on it would be faster.

Message: I think he would win because your truck is heavier and is also an automatic. You are stock while he has a mod. You are also less aerodynamic. I don't see you winning unless he isn't paying attention at all from the start.

Message: IF he has the 4 cylinder in it you would smoke him. Even if he has a newer on with the 1MZ in it you would probably still get him by half a truck length. I drive Camry's every day and they are no where near as fast as my dak, even before the mods.

Message: Your truck would win most definately if the camry is a 4 banger. My mom has a 99 Camry LE and that thing is so incredibly slow. When I get in my truck after driving that thing i feel like im driving a rocket.
Not to dis toyota, but the 4 cyl. they put in those cars are WAY underpowered

Message: lets look at the facts, the camry is lighter, uses a more efficient fwd system, and has a stick and a intake. Your truck is much heavier, has the resistance of larger tires, auto and rear drive. i say you will get your ass handed to you. any advantage you have in low end torque will be gone due to him revving up that 4 banger and poping the clutch. if you had a 3.7 then i would think you could pull it off, but a 3.9 naaa

Message: Alright there is one key element that everyone is missing here. Trucks are made to pull things and are geared lower than cars. You may have the torque off the line but besides that the car has all other advantages once it gets wound up.
So all in all my prediction would be:
If he has a 4 cyl. you would be about even and may be able to beat him,
otherwise if he's pulling 6 then he would probably win.

Message: Front wheel drive is not an advantage unless its wet out, look at every drag car built, unless they are are a tuned ricer, they have rear wheel. Simple physics will tell you its easier to push than to pull.

Message: hey jfh,
please get your facts right. yes drag cars pushing hundred of horsepower benefit from wieght transfer and thus use rwd, we are talking about a 100 hp camry! fwd cars have less drag, no driveshaft to spin ect and are therefore more efficient. due to this efficient drive terrain they get more power to the ground. if you dont believe this then go ask anyone at any dyno shop. on fwd vehicles the drive terrain loss is less than that of a rwd vehicle. so this guy in the camry is putting more power to the ground.
more power to the ground, less wieght, 5 speed too many advantages to dismiss, the dakota will get smoked

Message: You wanna challenge my facts? I am an Engineer, I design this stuff for a living. I want you to put your car in nuteral and then stand in front of it and pull, next stand behind and push, see which does better. You may get a bit more power from less drag, but pushing is much easier. I am not gonna sit here and argue with you, just putting out the facts, I won't be back to fight, not worth my time.

Message: Why don't you kids all sell your trucks and buy sports cars??? You are driving trucks!!! Why do they have a cargo bed, heavy suspension, and low end torque?? They were built to haul, pull, tow, and otherwise work, not to race. This is a truck forum, not a racing forum for kids who are proud to beat little ricers in illegal drag races. Get a life and grow up.
