Message: Does anyone know of somewhere to get a cheap O2 sensor? I checked autozone and they wanted like 65 bucks. Also, I was wondering if the Pre-cat sensor and post-cat sensor were interchangeable.

Message: $65 bucks is a good price. You would pay $200 at a dealer, and close to $100 for most aftermarket sensors. If you have a new vehicle with the fancy A/F sensors they run close to $400! And they don't last any longer.

Message: I just recently changed my O2 sensor (about two weeks ago). I too went to autozone and they had two different kinds of O2 sensors for the truck. One was an OEM part for $45 and the other was a universal sensor for $65(they may also try to get you to "rent" a socket tool that allows you to take off the sensor for $15, but you get your money back when you bring the tools back.) Not sure what year model your Dak is but mine was a '94 with 160K miles. If your truck is anywhere near as old as mine, it will take a little longer than 5 min to change and it may be a good idea to get some WD40.

Message: Thanks for the advise. My truck is a 99 with about half as many miles as yours, but I am sure it will be no easy task to get that sensor out.

Message: Just a thought. When I replaced mine, only one part number (per Manufacturer) was specified. Does this mean only one O2 sensor is available and is can be applied to either the intake and the exhaust?

Message: They're both the same. When you look at a schematic for them, they are even linked in parralel to each other. The one that is before the cat is the one that is important. If it goes bad, your truck will start to go loopy. The one after the cat is just there to verify the other and tell one wheather or not your cat is outta gas yet. If that one goes bad it won't effect how your motor runs, but you will get a code for it. I just changed my pre-cat one or "down stream" one the other day and payed 61 bucks for it, so the price is right. If you find one cheaper, your lucky, unless you wind up getting what you payed for and it kicks the bucket in a month or two. Anyways, hope that helps.

Message: Mopar Dude,
Would you agree that the Intake sensor gets fouled less and prob'ly needs almost never to be replaced? Manufacturer spec's that you should replace the exhaust O2 sensor about 50 to 60k. So maybe after about 100k miles you need to look at the intake manifold's sensr?

Message: Black Dog,
I'm guessing you are asking about the IAT sensor. All it is, is basically an electronic theremometer. It tells the computer how hot or cold the air is coming into the intake, telling it how much fuel, air, spark it needs to run the best. That's why everybody on here is so crazy to take it off the intake and move it somewhere colder. By doing that, the computer thinks it's colder causing the computer to put a more aggressive fuel, spark curve on the motor, creating more power. Although this is a "thermometer," it still wears out over time and needs to be changed now and then. I usually change all of my sensors every 50,000 miles or so. It's kinda pricy, but if you are only doing it every 50,000 it isn't that much money if you put it into that prospective. Hope that answers your question.

Message: Jeff,
Relocating your sensor to a colder place will make your truck run richer. Over time this will shorten the life of your cat. Under 50k does seem a little soon for it to go out on you though. Maybe it was just a flook. I wouldn't sweat it unless this turns out to be a repeat problem. Hope that helps.

Message: V-6 1998 --Actually it may not be the sensor. I got a code indicating that the exhaust O2 sensor was bad. I replaced it and drove about 100 miles and got a "check engine" light. The code came up for a bad exhaust O2 sensor again. The sensor was under warranty so I got another new one. I put it in and drove a couple of miles and the "Check Engine" light came on again. The Code is for the exhaust O2 sensor. I am now checking the wiring for problems.
Does anyone have a good hint on where to look for the solution to this problem?????
