I am looking at purchasing a 92 Dakota RC next week. It is a V6 auto Sport. It currently has 53000 miles on it. I was wondering what people have had problems with on these trucks and what are some ways to avoid them. Everything looks good on the truck except it is missing the air intake hose. Anybody out there have a stock one they would sell me? Thanks for the information.

Hey, John.
I've owned my V6/auto '92 since new and it has been a great truck, still solid and reliable after 10 years. The only issues I've had with it were a serpentine belt tensioner seizing up at 60,000 miles, and having to replace the distributor bushing at 80,000. Also, a real plus is to have the timing chain tensioner installed (as outlined in "Magnum V6 - Timing Chain TSB" found on SpeedTweaks - Tips and Tricks webpage). It was WELL WORTH IT!
Enjoy!

If you add the chain tensioner, don't forget to add a good double roller chain and gears while you have it apart. It's just a good time to do that while you have the front off the motor.

I love my 92, it is fast and is kindof a sleeper. The only problem I have had with it was a stumbling and dying problem. It was a bad coil.
Also broke my motor mount and tore off a heater hose, but all easy to fix.

Thanks everybody. I think this is a pretty good buy. The only thing wrong I can see is the paint is peeling off the hood. A couple of my students and a little paint later, I will be all set. (I teach at a technical high school) Thanks again for everyone input..

My truck has the paint peeling problem pretty bad, but I am going to paint it myself anyway. I am a student at a Technical school.

Oh yeah, I've heard the paint preparation was suspect on many of the early Dakotas, which causes the peeling. Too bad, because the peeling paint makes an outerwise great truck look shabby.
Dan.
