Anyone raced a 2000 Mustang V6, (5-speed or auto)? Can one be beat with a 3.9 and a 5-speed?
I was just wondering....

HELL NO you cant beat one. Lets see, about 190 hp in the stang, 175 in the Dak. Plus stang much lighter. so you see, you'd lose. Now when it comes to moving furniture, going camping, yardsales, landscaping, racin down dirtroads, well, thats what my trucks for! I would'nt drive a d--m v6 mustang anyway. later.

I can tear up my girlfriend's 95 Camaro with my 97 V6er pretty easily.
I think that year they only had like 160 HP out of the 3.4L V6 so i can take her most of the time, the corners are a different story though (for now)! ;)

Dave, even with the 5-speed, the 3.55 rear end will slow you down some. If you had the 3.92 you would probably get a closer start and make up the weight difference, but depending on the skill of both drivers I would say its up for grabs. My ex's V6 stang stayed right with me when we raced up to about 70mph (both auto trans). I had the 3.55's then.

The newer rustangs should be able to beat you unless the are sucky drivers...
Not sure what years but late '90s v6ers stangs are really slow!

You are right about not being able to beat a rustang stock.
But...........
If your dak has a few mods....(airintake/exaust/headers/jetchipII/180-t/3.90/etc)
Then you can pretty much blow off some rusty dooors
thats what my post says.
you stick with em stock blow em away with mods.

The newer stangs V6 is rated at 190 hp plus lighter weight, = you being beat. Think about it 190 vs 175 in a lighter vehicle. No brainer to me. but you can always try. let us know if you do.

My wife drives a 99' Mustang V6 and all I did to it was the drop in K&N. Best ET was 15.2 average 15.3-15.4 with me driving. The good thing is if you don't drive it perfectly it's not that fast, and the autos are slow. She is mad because I used to have a Ranger and she could smoke me, but she is no match for the 4.7L. Now she wants a GT, Oh well I'll just have to get a supercharger.

Just curious but why is it I don't hear much about installing a 4.10 rear end in a Dakota. I know its possible. Ive seen a Dakot with that ratio.

Here is what I find funny:
The 5.0 '94 & 95 stangs usually ran mid to low 15s with a 5-speed. How could the new v6 run the same times with 35 less hp and 50lbs (or so)less torque? I ran against an auto '94 5.0 at the track and it covered the 1/4 in 16.1. I'm sure the new v6 5-speed stangs are in the low 16s (maybe 15.9 under perfect conditions), along with the other cars with the same weight and power ratings (Monte Carlo & Stratus).

DeepDak, I didn't meen to upset anybody and I don't know where yo live, but if you would like to come to Houstn in the spring when the trak opens up agian I would be more than happy to prove it to you. My brother also has a 97' Maxima with the same HP & TQ rating and he runs a 15.1 (Maximas are lighter than Mustangs)with minimal mods.
P.S. 94'& 95' Mustangs are some of the slowest ever biult and I have beet them on the street and the track with the V6 Mustang.

I have a stock 2000 V6 RC. with 3.92. I can take an auto mustang through 2 but it starts to pull away in 3rd.

You guys keep racing the V6ers, and I'll take care of the GTs OK. Even thought the V6 Mustangs are faster than the V6 Daks, Mustangs still suk. My wifes 99' has 50,000 miles on it and it feels worn out when you drive it!!!!!!!

Well let me just say that the v6 mustang is just frekin slow I eat them for lunch. all that i have done to my v6 1998 rc fr. dakota is put a throttle body spacer glasspacks and fat tips with splitfire sparkplugs, also when i race i take out the air filter and put the tail gate down then change it out of overdrive. when you race let off the gas for a split second then press it to the floor again before changing gears. really it is about the driver. no matter if it is an auto. The fact is that I can hang with a rt. i went to the dodge dealership to get testing done and I have 256 horses with the little bit of modifications that i have done just make a few changes and youll beat it with ease. you wont need luck

I second that! 256HP out of a 3.9 with the mods you listed is simply impossible. How much do you think that throttle body spacer got you>??? None according to extensive dyno testing. Try gettin a blower and I might believe your're pushing even 250.

i've raced my 2k1 dakota for 6 months and i have not been beat by any mustang or camaro v-6. it's got the stock comp, exaust, 3.55 rear, 5spd. i don't understand why some of you guys say the dodge stock cant beat the cams and stangs. i driven all three and all i got to say is if you got the 5 spd, shift at around 5500rpms and never let it rev below 4700rpms. it sounds like the engine's gonna go, but i changed the rev limiter and it'll rev 6,000rpm all day long!!! try that and see how the little stangs and cams will do then. my email is AMC_43@yahoo.com email me for any comments or suggestions. thanks Patrick

hey chris w. i don't street race fyi. these places called drag strips always have a tune and test night every week. if you are going to race, do it there. that's my story. so if that smart-ass comment was directed torwards me, know the story first. i had friends from h.s. get killed doing stupid sh1t on the street and its not worth it. so no beef to you, but race on the track and don't ever give me this sh1t saying "i" cause high insurance rates and a waiting list at the e.r. because i go to the track, pay the very high entrance fees, and think the "kids" racing on the street should be parked and put on bmx bikes. get the picture! aftermidnight

hey chris, it's cool. i just wanted to know what was up. i had to experience this stuff in cleveland, oh as we were crusin. my buddy was getting pretty head-strong to his driving and thought he was cool. he raced a supra in his 300zx. they took off and at about 70mph, a car pulled out of the mac machine and both collided with her. both drivers, the woman, and her kids were killed. it was for a lousy $20! i just can't believe that 5 people died for $20.... but that what made me mad when you said that and i thought you were talking to me. anywho, thanks for the clearification on both sides. later, Patrick

yeah man, I have three new vehicle...so i have multicar discount, 30% discount for no tickets,30% discount for no accidents, 30% discount for haveing them for over three years. all of that adds up after a while...I know kid around where i live that pay $400+ just because they were in a little fender bender.

Most mustang drivers can barely keep it together going around a corner - let alone going straight in a race. Too many 'stang owners are too young for that much muscle or going through a mid-life crisis and too irresposible for that kind of car.
Is the car faster than the dak? Probably. Can a level headed truck owner out drive the 'stang -- in most cases, I'd say yes.
