Message: I have a 99 dakota 3.9L 45k miles club cab and im having the same idle problem you are.I dont know what to do about it but if you or anyone eles does please e-mail me {svtc8083@aol.com}.It happen to me once when i went from R to D and died on me then didnt want to start back up w/out a little gas pedal.I just bought it about 2 months ago and i love it.I went from a 95 POS ford taurus to it.Love ur site.Thanks for any help

Message: I would start with the throttlebody.
I had a simuliar problem you describe and found the idle valve solenoid was broken. Not to mention the TB was pretty well gummed up. You are going to spend about 55 bucks to fix this...if this indeed the problem. The idle valve solenoid is about 43 bucks and the TB cleaner is around 4 and your TB gasket is going to run you about 6 bucks.
If you want to spend even more money, I would suggest for 6 bucks that you dump a can of Seafoam into the gas tank. Seafoam is some awesome stuff.
