Message: I've been reading your posts and have been getting a lot of great information. Thanks guys.
I have a stock 98 Dakota SLT V6 Auto.
I seem to be having the same problems of everyone else. I am going to modify the air intake and do something with the exhaust. That will hopefully make it run better. Also will put in the Autolite plugs. My main concern is with the transmission. I just hit 60k miles, and on the way home the other day, I lost all my forward gears except low. Can't go to fast in low. I made it home. Checked a few things, everything looked fine. Started it up, the check engine light is on now, but my transmission was shifting again. I've read there a quite a few sensors on the Dak, any idea which one might have caused this problem? Should I get the codes read to see if that gives any indication, or will it just have something generic? It is a 98, so it sounds like I can only read the codes with a computer. How do I get the check engine light to turn off?
I'm concerned that this isn't going to be a realiable vehichle in the long run. Do you sell it, keep it and hope for the best, or put a 5 spd into it.
After reading your posts, I started up the truck and shifted out of park without my foot on the brake. That seems real safe.
Just in case I ever need to bring my truck somewhere for work, does anyone have a recomendation for a decent mechanic in Raleigh, NC?
Thanks for all the great info

Message: Hey mike,
You said you had about 60,000 miles on your truck when the transmision acted up, did you have your transmision serviced at 30K and 60K?(Change Fluid and transmision filter). It's widely known that Mopar doesn't make the best transmisions, but if you do your trans service every 30K you shouldn't have TOO many problems with it. As for getting it looked at or serviced, I would take it to your local Dodge, Crysler, or Jeep dealership. I think a transmison service usualy runs about $90 but diagnosis/reading your Check Engine Light might run you about an hour labor.Hope this helps and Good luck.

Message: I have a 98 Dodge Dakota and when it is warming up it stalls than picks back up. It starts fine and does not do this all the time. If I am going slow it almost stops, but picks up and runs fine. If I am going fast it just hesitates and than runs fine. After it is warm it runs fine.
Thanks
