Subject: intermitent stalling IP: Logged
Message: Hello, I have a 97 3.9 dakota and am having a problem. About a month ago it started to stall when I would be driving and pull up to a stop it will periodically stall. The thing always starts up again and will be fine for a while, then stall again at a stop. It is a very intermittent event, maybe 1-2 times a week, and then some days it will do it 2-3 times a day! Well, of course I am going to move in less than a week and need my truck and I go to run some errands and of course it won't start. It will crank, start to start, stumble and die. I caught it once and revved the sh*t out of it(you know to clean it out) and let it idle down, dies. Now it won't start at all! I had this same problem when I first bought the truck 2 years ago and the dealer replaced my idle control module for free and cured it. Has anyone else experienced this problem with there daks? About how much and how hard is to to replace this component? Sorry for the lengthy post, but your help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Message: I am currently having the same problem with my 98 3.9. It actually just started yesterday, but has happenned before. It was running fine when I shut it off to pick up my step kids. I started it again, and it died. Did it about 3 times before I started it and gave enough gas to keep it from stalling and even then I had to put one foot on the brake and one on the gas for a while. Once I got down the road, I didn't have a problem. It did it again last night. The last time I had this problem, it was still on warranty, and they replaced the air control motor.
Is there anyone out there that knows more what the problem is.
Thanks.

Message: My 92 does the same thing. I am in the process of replacing the distributor. I have put all new FMS injectors and autolite 3923's and it still does the stumbling and dying. It is very dangerous because it dies in the middle of big intersections.

Message: Just thought you might want to know what happened with my truck. I took it into the dealer and after checking some things out it turned out to be my idle control motor again. They replaced that and cleaned the "sludge" from the throttle bore. Seems to have cleared it up, hope this helps some of you.

Message: I have successfully changed the distributor and that wasn't the problem. It still stumbles and dies whenever it feels like it. I have narrowed it down to either a bad connection somewhere or the fuel filter.(maybe the coil) It can't be a dirty throttle body because I recently put on a v8 tb freshly cleaned before install.
