Message: Hey guys,
I just found this site and have seen a lot of really useful info. Glad I found it.
I've got a question for ya'll. I just put a set of 15X8 Dakota/Durango wheels on my 94 Sport. They seem to fit ok, but the front ones come VERY close to the upper control arm...so close the the wheel waits bump it when I turn sharp. Anyway, the problem I have is that the dust cap on the front rotors stick out about 1/2" past the center cap hole, so needless to say the front center caps won't go on. Has anybody else ran into this? Do they make a shallower dust cap or does the spindle stick out too far for that?
Thanks in advance,
Jeff

Message: Hey, jkw.
I mounted a set of late-model Dakota/Durango 16x8" wheels on my GenII ('92) Dak, and yes, they are a tight fit. The wheel weights need to be the stick-on type, and placed carefully to avoid hitting the top knuckle (I think). And yeah, I had to hack-saw 1/2 inch off the end of the front spindles to allow the cap to fit on the front wheels. But I'm really happy with the subtle/stocky look they give the truck.

Message: i ran into the same problem with clearnce from top of the rim and putting on the center caps
To fix the rim clearnce issue I had to grind about 1/4 inch along the entire top of the A arm to the width of the Rim
Remember that when the truck is on the ground the A arms go up so if it appears it has enough clearance when you have it on jacks it might not be enough. to truly check you have to install the wheel take truck of the jack and compress the shock to make the A arm go up. (compress the shock by pushing on the fender down) With The R/T rims i also have rubbing on the frame when turning full lock to lock. It rubs on the plastic inner fender protector. I think it is well worth it .
To fix the dust cap thing remove rim/dustcap push the cotter pin out of the way grind down the spindle until you are about 1/8-1/4 inch from the holes where the cotter pin goes through put the dust cap back on pound it down flat with a hammer

Message: hay JKW, I had the same problem with the 2001 dak 16x8 wheels I put on my 94. What you have to do is fisrt, get new dust caps from autozone. They are a little shollower then stock. You are also going to have to flatten them a little. Second get a 1/4" spacer for the front wheels and put the wheels back on and they should fit with the center caps. And since you are moving the wheel out a 1/4" inch, the wheels should not hit the control arm any more. good luck..

Message: 4x4's have a different hub than the 2 wheel drive so there is no problem with the center cap.
