Message: Getting ready to roll over 30,000 in my 2000 R/C 5-speed. No mechanical problems so far, except the sticking thermostat. That wasn't a biggie though, I was going to replace it with a 180 anyway ;0)
Towed everything with it so far. A u-haul from Michigan to Florida, a 18ft boat, a 67 GTO, A backhoe with a blown rear-end worm gear, a S-10 out of the ditch (that was fun), and have had 24 hay bales stacked in the back. It's been a great truck. Like some others said, I get lots of compliments on it...
Two of my favoriets...
Classmate asked what size V8 I had. The look on his face when I told him a V6 was pretty funny...
My 'You are an idiot for sinking money into your truck' roommate who thinks driving his vehicles until a part breaks is preventive maintance borrowed my truck two days ago (his car is, you guessed it, broke). On return he couldn't tell me enough how much balls my truck has. Just smile and nod...

Message: I have a 2001 3.9 5-speed with 50,000 miles. I haul 1, sometimes 2, dirt bikes plus gear every weekend. My truck averages 25 to 26 mpg highway at 60 mph, 22 mpg at 80 mph. I think the truck is great. My only problem was an electrical short behind the dash, warranty.
I do all this at 7000 feet above sea level.
one question: If people are so interested in MPG, why do they buy an automatic?
K&N, Flowmaster, NGK Plugs, 180 thermo.

Mine's a stick, maybe that makes the difference, eh? It tows cars just fine... towed the fully loaded trailer just fine. Stopping was fun though, I -really- needed trailer brakes...

OIL FILTER changed every oil change. I never seen bad fluid in the trany and change it every 50,000 to 60,000 mi. Only flushed the coolant 2x at about 50,000 mile intervals (not too smart but no harm done). Changed transfer case and diff fluid at 107,000 (first and last time). Truck has never disappointed me. Oh yeah, A/C never charged or needed service!

I've never gone over 3500 miles for an oil change and it's never run hot. I've taken pretty good care of it, so I hope it will last a little longer. I just can't afford to go out and buy a new one at around $400 a month. That new car smell goes away a hell of a lot quicker than those fat ass payments do.

Message: 2002 3.9 v6 - 1600 miles! It's the single-cab shortbed Sport, w/5spd. Just got the truck a few weeks ago & am love'n it! I traded off a beloved '97 Dodge Ram 4x4 w/5.9 V8. I don't know what you all are complaining about as far as power & pulling ability...granted it's not the same as my Ram was...but this thing has more power than my old '92 Chevy w/the 4.3 v6 5spd. I haven't pulled anything with it yet,...but it has no problems hauling my Banshee around ;) I will be pulling a dune buggy, sometimes 2 with it, plus the banshee. I really don't think I'll have any problems,...but if I do have any complaints, I'll be sure & let you all know! l8r!

Message: 127K, as of today, on a '93 ext cab 4X4 with automatic. Biggest and nastiest thing replaced so far was the water pump last summer. Worse than replacing the fuel pump. It gets a consistent 19 mpg on the highway, at 70. It does everything I need a truck to do. Very well.

Message: 4750 since 12-01. What a Piece of crap. New trans at 250 miles. Dealer will not fix anything claiming "Problems are characteristic". I am sure they are right. Steady freeway (65) unloaded gives 19 MPG. Barely holds speed up a 4% grade floored in 5th and empty. Doesn't compare to my '84 Mitsubishi 2.6L that takes my dirt bike and gear up the grapevine (7%+) at 70. My friends '00 4.7L gets better mileage and I barely run it over 2500 RPM because of the stumble. Sits in the driveway unless absolutely necessary. Will never buy another chrysler product.

Message: SloDak39, I'm with you on this one also.
I pull a double ski-doo trailer with mine every week-end, and its a dog.
but I've learnt to keep the OD off while pulling I get much better results, with the OD off I can keep up to my friends that pull their doubles with ski-doos on in their 1999 Acura Integra.
Does anyone know if it's bad to switch the OD off and on? I tend to turn it off when pulling straight line and climbing, and I turn it back on when going down hills.... Is this bad to do?
I'm wondering if theirs something wrong with my truck?
By the way it's a 2001 V6, 4x4, QC, Auto, with about 40,000 kms (about 25,000 miles).

Message: 2slo, it's a good idea to shut the O/D off when in city traffic, and when climbing hills that make the transmission "hunt" for a gear. I've found that if I'm in cruise, and the trans wants to hunt, dropping out of cruisewill enable me to keep it in O/D, with the converter unlocked. Then, I re-engage the O/D once I've crested the hill. I like the cruise control's compression brake feature that keeps the downhill speed constant.
