Subject: Won't start, No computer feedback IP: Logged
Message: Few weeks ago my '93 v6 Dakota quit starting on me. Got a code 42 relating to the ASD circuit. Have replaced cap, rotor, hall effect switch, crank sensor, battery, and finally the computer. The fuel pump and ASD relays don't activate when the key is on and the "Check Engine" light quit coming on period. Relays are all good still- no current is being sent to them from the computer. I can't even get a scan tool to communicate with the computer (old one or the new one) or get it to flash any codes by turning the key 3 times like it used to.
Please help! Love my Dakota but this is getting expensive!
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Message: No check engine lite means either the computer is totally fried, or you have no power at the computer. See if you have power and ground where you should at the ecu connector. Also check to make sure the connector isn't damaged. It might look ok but if the terminal is just slightly corroded, or just slightly bent it can cause a problem since the ecu only runs on 5v. If power and ground are good try another ecu, they are very sensitive, maybe it was damaged during the install??
