What I have done is just disconnect the battery NEG cable and wait 5 to 10 min then connect it back up and it should be off.
But it will come back on if the problem is still there.

Just pull the efi fuse, this takes power away from the engine computer without killing you radio station presets. BTW, some of the newer computers from some car companies can't be erased by shutting down the computer, you need a scan tool to clear them, but disconnecting the power will still clear most computers.
