Subject: Can someone explain

ok i took off the carpeting on the back of the cab
in my 00 reg cab. i noticed there were two rather
large vents there. what are they for? i need to
mount a board there so i can mount my speakers and
amp. so are these vents necessary? thanks for any
answers yall can provide

I had noticed them on mine ('97) after looking at them on a '00 model. I think they're for pressure relief...but couldn't be sure.

Definitely a strange thing...that's for sure.

thats so when you fart in the cab, your ears dont pop.

seriously, though - they keep pressure in the cab equal to pressure outside the cab, which has all sorts of practical and safety advantages. (ie, if you slam both doors simultaneously, you wont run the risk of blowing out the back glass. When you run the air conditioner to pull in outside air, the air already in your cab has to go somewhere. Most importantly, If you go in the drink, the pressure in will equalize with the pressure out sooner so you can open the door and get the hell out. etc)
